DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers scored five rushing touchdowns as they dispensed of their in-state rivals, the Cedar Rapids Titans, 46-23.
The Barnstormers struck with 6:03 left in the first quarter on quarterback Travis Partridge's three-yard run. Following a safety by the Titans, Iowa scored again on running back Keshaudas Spence's four-yard run, and nearly midway through the second quarter they were up 16-0.
Brion Carnes' 31 yard pass to Tre' Parmalee put Cedar Rapids on the board, but Partridge and the Barnstormers came back with a four-yard strike to Brady Roland. With under a minute in the first half and pinned deep in their own territory, the Titans were going to work out of the shotgun formation, and saw the snap go high over Carnes' head and into the stands. It was the second safety committed by the Titans in the first half.
Iowa went into the break with a 25-6 advantage.
The Barnstormers went up 32-6 on Partridge's second touchdown run of the game just 2:25 into the third quarter. After Michael Gergetti's 29-yard field goal, the Barnstormers scored twice to go up 46-9 early in the fourth quarter.
The Titans added a couple late scores, but were unable to fully make up the deficit.
Iowa held the edge in total offense, 244 yards to 173, and in first downs, 21 to 11. The Barnstormers also held the edge in time of possession, 36:33 to 23:27.
In addition to rushing for 54 yards on 17 carries and three scores, Partridge completed 18 of 28 for 151 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Spence ran eight times for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Lucas Hefty led the Barnstormers with eight catches for 62 yards. Vincent Taylor led them with eight tackles, and Ra'Shawde Myers had a sack.
Carnes went 13 of 24 for 158 yards and three touchdowns Parmalee had four receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. Receivers Damond Powell and Tony Grimes each caught a touchdown pass. Fred Griggs had eight tackles for the Titans and Chris Martin had a fumble recovery. Jourdan Wickliffe registered the interception for Cedar Rapids.
The Barnstormers (3-2) are in the midst of a three-game homestand. They will host the Green Bay Blizzard (2-2) on April 8 at 5:05 p.m. (PT). The Titans (0-5) visit the Blizzard a week earlier, on April 1, for a 5:05 p.m. (PT kickoff). Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
