PHOENIX, AZ - The Wichita Falls Nighthawks scored twice in the final five minutes to silence the Arizona Rattlers Saturday night, 60-53.
With the Rattlers leading 53-45, the Nighthawks scored on a 30-yard pass from Charles McCullum to Troy Evans. McCullums two-point conversion pass to Phillip Barnett was successful and the game was knotted at 53-53. After a missed field goal attempt by Sawyer Petre of the Rattlers, the Nighthawks marked down field in seven plays. McCullum hit Jordan Jolly for a six-yard touchdown with three seconds remaining.
Wichita Falls opened up a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The Rattlers outscored The Nighthawks 24-7 over a span of just over 11 minutes during the third and fourth quarters, leading 31-28 with 9:42 remaining in the third. The Nighthawks outscored the Rattlers 18-7 in the fourth quarter.
Arizona amassed 337 yards of total offense compared to 296 for Wichita Falls, and held a 21-18 edge in first downs. The Rattlers also held a large advantage in time of possession, 38:07 to 21:53.
McCullum went 20 of 27 for 256 yards and seven touchdowns. Tyler Williams rushed eight times for 26 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Jolly had six grabs for 95 yards and three touchdowns, while Tyron Laughinghouse had three receptions for 66 yards and a score. In addition to Evans, Barnett and Angelo Pease each caught a touchdown pass from McCullum. Neiko Conway had 7.5 total tackles for the Nighthawks, and Michael Carter had an interception. Walter Thomas, Demetrius Hill and Kewan Alfred each recorded a sack.
Cody Sokol, making his first start under center for the Rattlers, completed 15 of 28 passes for 224 yards for four touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown. Ketrich Harmon had an outstanding outing, rushing 20 times for 122 yards with two trips to the end zone. Demerius Washington caught four balls for 77 yards and a score. Anthony Amos added 55 yards on a pair of receptions and a touchdown. Jamal Miles caught four 46 yards and two touchdowns, while Fred Williams hauled in five passes for 46 yards. Arkeith Brown led the Rattlers with seven total tackles and Joshua Gordon recorded a sack.
The Nighthawks (5-1) will host the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles (1-4) on April 8 for a 5:05 p.m. (PT) kickoff. The Rattlers (2-3) will visit the Nebraska Danger (4-2) on April 7 at 5:05 p.m. (PT). Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
