4/1/17 --
GREEN BAY, WI - Jamuel jones' two-yard run with 53 seconds remaining proved to be all the Cedar Rapids Titans would need as they bested the Green Bay Blizzard, 41-37, to earn their first victory of the season.
The Titans became the last team in the IFL to post to the win column. The league's other winless team heading into the weekend, the Colorado Crush, defeated the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles, 52-49, on March 31.
Much of the game was back-and-forth. The Blizzard took a 34-33 lead with 1:25 left in the third quarter on Jeff Budzein's 24 yard field goal. That was extended to 37-33 with 4:19 left in the fourth on a 20-yard field goal, setting up Jones' game-winning run to cap a five-play, 41-yard drive. Jones added a two-point conversion run to account for the final tally.
Through week 7, each of the IFL's 10 teams has won at least once on the road.
Cedar Rapids amassed 200 yards of total offense to Green Bay's 166. The Titans also had 18 first downs to the Blizzard's 10. The teams combined for 20 accepted penalties for 158 yards in the game.
Brion Carnes completed 14 of 27 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 10 times for 23 yards and a pair of scores. In addition to Jones, Marcus Bennett had a rushing touchdown. Damond Powell hauled in six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Tre Parmalee had four receptions for 41 yards. Connor Hollenbeck scored on his only catch of the game, a 33 yarder from Carnes. Curtis Thomas led the Titans with seven total tackles.
For the Blizzard, Matt Behrendt went seven of 20 for 88 yards and a trio of touchdowns, and ran nine times for 45 yards. Darryan Ragsdale rushed seven times for 33 yards. Andrew McDonald scored on both of his receptions in addition to his 35 yards receiving. DeAndre Brown had one reception for 15 yards and a score. A.J. Downs and Manny Aprilla had 8.5 and seven tackles, respectively.
The Titans (1-5) will host the Sioux Falls Storm (5-0) on April 8 at 5:05 p.m. (PT). The Blizzard (2-4) will visit the Iowa Barnstormers (3-2) on April 8 at 5:05 p.m. (PT). Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
