GRAND ISLAND, NE - Sawyer Petre's 20-yard field goal with two seconds left was all the Arizona Rattlers needed as they stole one from the Nebraska Danger.
The final four scores of the game came on field goals, with Petre's kick lifted the Rattlers to the 39-36 win. He also kicked field goals of 22 and 23 yards late in the third quarter and midway through the fourth, respectively.
Nebraska took a 26-21 lead into the half on a 12 yard pass from Derrick Bernard to Dello Davis. The Rattlers answered with a safety with 8:48 remaining in the third, then scored on an 11-yard pass from Cody Sokol to Anthony Amos. The Danger responded when Eric Thomas returned the ensuing kickoff 36 yards to the end zone to put the Danger up 33-30.
The teams traded field goals, then Petre tied the game and lifted the Rattlers to the three-point win.
The Rattlers outgained the Danger in total offense, 242 yards to 149, including an edge in passing yards, 155-85. Arizona was flagged eight times for 65 yards, while Nebraska had five penalties for 33 yards. Arizona held the advantage in time of possession, 36:06 to 23:54. Each team recorded a sack.
Sokol completed 17 of 30 passes for 165 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing nine times for 33 yards. Amos caught seven passes for 70 yards and Fred Williams added seven catches of his own for 66 yards. Each receiver caught a pair of touchdowns. Joshua Gordon recorded a sack of the Danger and Adam Sauder recovered a fumble. Justin Shirk led Arizona with 4.5 total tackles.
Bernard, who did not start for the Danger in the previous two games, went nine of 19 for 97 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed six times for 19 yards and a score. Rob Brown ran five times for 45 yards. Davis led Nebraska with 51 yards on three catches with two touchdowns. Thomas had four receptions for 23 yards, and Dimitri Stimphil scored a touchdown on his only catch, for 25 yards. Trey Wafford led the Danger with 10.5 tackles, while Nikolas Sierra had 9.5 along with a sack.
The Rattlers (3-3) will visit the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles (1-5) on April 14 at 6 p.m. (pacific). The Danger (4-3) will be in Iowa to face the Barnstormers (4-2) on April 15 at 5:05 p.m. (pacific).
