SPOKANE, WA - Spokane Empire RB/OS Trevor Kennedy has been named Vidswap.com's Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 10.
In a back-and-forth affair that was reminiscent of their old rivalry in the Arena Football League, the Spokane Empire and Arizona Rattlers continued to trade hard hits, big plays, and points on the scoreboard. Down 42-44 early in the 4th Quarter, Kennedy (6'0'', 205 lbs) was sent out to return the kick for just the second time in the game. With a quick cut across the middle of the field, Kennedy would sprint down the left sideline and return the the kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown to put the Empire back on top 49-44. The quick score would provide a spark for the Empire's offense during the rest of the game, and Spokane would go on to defeat Arizona 60-51 for the organization's first win in Phoenix since the 2010 AFL Season.
In addition to his kickoff return for a touchdown, Kennedy would also score on a 1-yard rushing touchdown and a 16 yard receiving touchdown in the game. His three touchdowns gives him 9 total on the season, good for the third most individual points (54) on the team behind K Craig Peterson (59 points) and WR Bryan Pray (68).
This week's award marks the sixth overall Player of the Week award for the Spokane Empire, and the first Special Teams PotW in 2017. DBs Robert Brown (Week 2), Tyree Robinson (Week 3), and John Hardy-Tuliau (Week 6) won Defensive PotW honors, while Kennedy (Week 4) and QB Charles Dowdell (Week 5) have taken home the Offensive PotW.
Honorable mentions for Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 10 include WR/KR Marcus Barnett (Cedar Rapids), DB/KR Daniel Lindsey (Colorado), WR/KR Korey Williams (Sioux Falls), and WR/KR Tyler Williams (Wichita Falls).
The other IFL Week 10 winners include:
Offensive Player of the Week - QB Liam Nadler, Colorado Crush
Defensive Player of the Week - DL Eze Obiora, Nebraska Danger
After an exciting win in Arizona, the Empire return home for late Sunday afternoon tilt against the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PST. You can catch the action locally on the radio with Larry Weir, the Voice of the Empire, on 700 ESPN AM, 105.3 FM, or online at 700ESPN.com. The game will be broadcast on the IFL's Official YouTube account.
