This week the Indoor Football League received commitments from five of its 2017 members for the 2018 season.
Those teams were the Iowa Barnstormers, Arizona Rattlers, Nebraska Danger, Green Bay Blizzard and Cedar Rapids Titans. There is a possibility that the Colorado Crush could get a new owner to return and that the Sioux Falls Storm could come back as well
The five clubs that committed could make the league a very strong organization. Arizona and Iowa posted records with ten or more wins. The two have excellent staffs from the top of the organization to the bottom of it. Arizona and Iowa are old AFL rivals, and some of there past games have been classics. This should continue keeping fans glued too their seats so that they wont miss any action.
Nebraska and Green Bay went in different directions in terms of the standings in 2017 but toward the end of the year the Blizzard played well, getting a victory against Salt Lake to go with some near misses that were closer than many people may think.
The Blizzard will need better talent in 2018 to improve and battle their foes, talent will come finding it and using it properly will determine if Green Bay can rejoin the IFL elite. Nebraska was the Minnesota Vikings of the IFL in 2017. They started out well but couldn't win the important game that would have put it in the playoffs. Then, due to a Spokane Empire loss in the final week, secured a playoff spot.
The Danger will likely have some great games with Arizona and Iowa in 2018 and prove too be somewhat of a spoiler until it stabilizes in a couple of positions, mainly quarterback; the most important of all.
Cedar Rapids struggled in 2017 yet their commitment shows an organization looking to rise an challenge and maybe sneak up on the contenders. This will not be hard too do in a five team league. They will need more focus and obtain players that can help erase a losers image from 2017.
The Indoor Football League may be the strongest five team organization in indoor football history. The membership is made up of veteran organizations that have been a part of the game and know what it takes too be successful, that being said problems could occur with attendance, lack of competition, and interest that will need too be overcome and not allowed too linger or the league as a whole could suffer.
