The Indoor Football League entered the 2017 season in great shape. It was billed by many observers of the indoor version of football as Americas most successful league, mainly because it maintained a form of stability while undergoing the normal growing pains a league goes through. Franchises came and left the league but interest peaked and the league looked ready too overtake the Arena Football League on top of the indoor league mountain. The offseason has brought disaster. The leagues most successful franchise the Sioux Falls Storm bolted the league for the Champions Indoor Football League. The Champions League is a great league however indoor observers have looked upon it as a third tier league thus guessing games have developed as too why the team chose this route. Last offseason current league champion Arizona faced a similar decision that lead to the team leaving the Arena Football League for the Indoor Football League.
The Storm take a legacy with them to the CHampions League. They won the league championchip six times and consistently placed many of their players in the upper half of the leagues statistical categories. The teams defection is understandable, it wanted too make sure it could compete in 2018 and not sit out a season which would destroy the fan base. The picture can be made clearer if one looks at the NFL. This is the league everyone notices. If a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers or New England Patriots decided to leave the leave and join the Candian Football League massive protests would occur and disbelief would set in to the point that the league might face a hard time overcoming it. This may happen to the IFL, however it could be a good character test to see if the league can overcome it like the AFL and achieve its goal of becoming an elite league.
