PHOENIX, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers did just enough as they held off the Nebraska Danger to earn their 10th win of the Indoor Football League season tonight at Talking Stick Resort Arena. The Rattlers moved to 10-2 with the 45-40 win, a half game ahead of the Iowa Barnstormers in the playoff hunt. The teams play next week in what could determine the top seed in the playoffs. Both teams have already clinched home field advantage in the post season, and are looking to secure home field advantage.
Rattlers head coach Kevin Guy became the winningest coach in team history, picking up his 142nd win over his tenure. The previous high of 141 was set by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Danny White.
The Danger are in fourth place and, if that holds, would face the number one seed in the first round (Semifinals). Nebraska is 4-8 on the season.
The Danger scored first as Gregory Hankerson Jr. found a hole on the right side of the line and ran in from 23 yards out. The Rattlers countered with a four-play, 30-yard drive capped by Jamal Miles' three-yard run to the right side. Brad Hatfield put the Danger back up with his season-long field goal of 47 yards. The Rattlers took their first lead of the game with 1:10 left in the opening quarter on Shadrach Thornton's eight-yard run. Arizona led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Nebraska drove 41 yards in five plays, culminating on Hankerson's 13-yard strike to Eric Thomas to give the Danger a 17-14 lead just under three minutes into the second quarter. Hatfield extended the Danger's lead to 20-14 with a 43-yard field goal, but the Rattlers came back on a seven-yard run from Ziemba. Following a penalty riddled final minute of the first half, Petre nailed a 29 yard field goal to put the Rattlers up 24-20 as time expired.
Arizona stalled on their first drive of the third quarter and the Danger capitalized with a four-play, 45-yard drive. Hankerson, who rushed three times on the drive for 30 yards, threw a 15-yard strike to Kenzel Doe, who made the catch while slamming into the dasher board at the back of the end zone. Hatfield's point after try was blocked by Arizona's Joshua Gordon giving Nebraska a 26-24 lead at the 9:53 mark of the third quarter. The Rattlers came right back as Dezmon Epps scored on a five yard pass from Ziemba to the left. Arizona got the ball back and scored on the final play of the third quarter on Ziemba's eight-yard run. The Rattlers led 38-26 heading into the final quarter.
The Danger pulled to within four at 38-33 on a two-yard run by Angelo Pease with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter. Arizona went up by 11 when Ziemba hit an open Epps in the end zone for 15 yards. Nebraska made it interesting, scoring on a one-yard pass from Hankerson to Pease with 15 seconds left to account for the final tally of 45-40.
This was the first game with Adam Shackleford and Pit Brown as co-head coaches of the Danger. The duo took over for Mark Stoute, who was fired by the team earlier in the week following a six-game losing streak.

Great recap of an exciting game. The Rattlers kind of pulled away, but the Danger were in it until nearly the end. Awesome to bring the post game interviews here! Great job Gary!
