ANALYSIS
One of these teams is struggling mightily, but the is be positioning itself for a playoff run as the second half of the season is just under way. The River Kings looked good in their season opening 47-44 loss to the Sioux Falls Storm, and in their week 3 win over the San Diego Strike force in Cedar Rapids. They're now coming off losses to two previously winless teams, the Strike Force in San Diego and the Bismarck Bucks last week at home. They scored just eight points as they fell to the latter by 15 points. Mark Stoute's group is eager for a win. After losing a pair of contests, the Danger have come back to win two of their last three. They split a home-and-away series with the Green Bay Blizzard. The first was a final seconds loss by six to the Blizzard in Green Bay and they came back to win by a touchdown last week in Grand Island. A win over the River Kings would put them over .500 on the season and enable them to possibly challenge the Blizzard for the fourth and final IFL playoff spot. This will be the ninth all-time encounter between the teams, with the Danger leading the series 6-2. Nebraska is 3-1 overall in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Rapids won the first meeting, 42-38, on June 16, 2012. Despite their close geographical proximity, the teams have played just those eight games in the past eight seasons, and did not meet in 2013 nor in 2014. The Danger are the only team the Titans will see twice at home over the course of the 2018 season. The Danger swept Cedar Rapids last season, 3-0.
Kurt Palandech comes in fifth in the IFL with 137.4 passing yards per game. He's completing 63.6 percent of his pases for 1099 yards with 18 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushes for 33 yards per game and has four touchdowns on the ground. He'll need to improve his conversion rate on third and fourth downs where the River Kings rank eighth in the league in both categories. Nathaniel Chavious has 334 yards off 78 carries and is tied for third in the league with 12 rushing touchdowns. Veteran Marquel Wade leads the receiving corps with 39 catches for 404 yards and seven touchdowns. Jordan Smith has 27 receptions for 294 yards and five scores, and Drake White enters this game with 14 catches for 160 yards and four touchdowns in just four games. Malik Slater's 46 tackles lead Cedar Rapids. e also has s.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. Travonti "Tuff" Johnson has 30 tackles, two fumble recoveries and three pass break ups. Jeff Branch leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss, and Nick Brassell has intercepted opposing quarterbacks twice on the season. Phillip Nwosu has appeared in the team's last three games, hitting 12 of 13 of his extra point attempts and is one of six on field goal tries; the make being of 29 yards.
Former Nebraska Cornhusker Tommy Armstrong, Jr. is completing 61.5 percent of his passes and is averaging 134.0 yards per game through the air. He is second in the IFL with 23 touchdowns. Armstrong leads the league with 60.3 rushing yards per game and 16 rushing touchdowns in a balanced Danger offense. Davonte Sapp-Lynch is the featured back with 333 yards off 65 carries and 13 scores, which ranks him second behind Armstrong in that category. Sapp-Lynch also is a threat our of the backfield with his 17 receptions for 117 yards. Eric Thomas and Gregory Dent, Jr. are a formidable receiving duo and Armstrong's primary targets. Thomas has 27 receptions for 303 yards and seven touchdowns, and Dent has caught 24 balls for 281 yards and nine scores. Look for Quincy Walden to round out the group. Najee Bright's 31 tackles lead the group, and Chris Martin leads the league with 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks to go along with his 30 tackles and three pass break ups. Brandon Roe is tied for the IFL league with four defensive interceptions. Seyvon Lowry and D'Vonn Brown have each recorded 1.5 sacks on the season. Brendan Hanaphy made his debut last week and converted on three of four extra point attempts.
