ANALYSIS
This is the third and final meeting between the teams. The River Kings, who have dropped six straight, are desparate for a win. The Barnstormers are looking for the season sweep in order to stay among the top two teams in the IFL. They are in second place, just a game ahead of the Sioux Falls Storm, who defeated them, 36-32, in week 9. Iowa has gotten the better of Cedar Rapids in the first two meetings. The Barnstormers outscored the River Kings 24-10 in the second half, as they stole a 41-20 win in the first meeting on March 30 in Cedar Rapids. Just a week later, The River Kings kept things close through three quarters, but were outscored 19-7 in the final quarter as the Barnstormers secured a 65-48 win in Des Moines. Iowa linebacker Treyvon Williams was named IFL Defensive Player of the Week after recording seven total tackles, a sack, three tackles for loss and a five-yard blocked field goal return for a touchdown in last week's 61-58 win over the Tucson Sugar Skulls. Cedar Rapids running back Nathaniel Chavious had a 54-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the River Kings's 66-42 loss to the Nebraska Danger last week. This is the 13th meeting between the teams; the Barnstormers lead the series 8-4.
Kurt Palandech has put up some pretty good numbers for the River Kings this season, he missed last week's game against the Danger due to a family medical issue. Ben Wilkerson will get his second straight start. Wilkerson struggled in the first half last week as Cedar Rapids was outscored 31-9, but seemed to fine a rhythm in the second half. He completed seven of 14 throws for 65 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions; and rushed for 45 yards and another score in the loss. Chavious is a solid rusher who comes in sixth in the IFL with 39.3 rushing yards per game and fifth with 13 rushing touchdowns. Marquel Wade is second in the IFL with 42 receptions, and has 433 yards to go along with seven touchdowns. He is also potent in the return game. Jordan Smith has 27 catches for 294 yards and five touchdowns. Drake White has caught five touchdown passes in his five appearances. The River Kings' backfield lacks experience as stalwarts Tuff Johnson, Malik Slater and Ricky Johnson are on injured reserve. Nick Brassell leads active defensive players with 33 tackles, and has a pair of interceptions and 1.5 tackles for loss. Jeff Branch has two sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss, as well as two fumble recoveries. Kevon Perry adds a sack in his five games with the team. Phillip Nwosu has converted on 14 or 18 extra point attempts and four of 11 field goal tried with a long of 49 yards.
Daquan Neal is second in the IFL with 170.6 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns per game. He is completing 72.2 percent of his passes and has thrown just two interceptions on the season. Neal's 44.5 rushing yards per game and is fifth in the league, and he is tied for third with 14 touchdowns on the ground. Jamal Tyler takes some heat off of Neal in the ground game with his 25.9 rushing yards, along with eight trips to the end zone. Ryan Balentine, who leads the IFL with 55 receptions and 569 receiving yards, is fourth all-time in the league with 6,730 all-purpose yards. He needs just 22 more to move ahead of Bryan Pray into third in that category. Connor Hollenbeck, the former Cedar Rapids Titan, has 29 grabs for 303 yards and five touchdowns. Jazeric Peterson rounds out the group with 14 grabs for 243 yards and three scores. Jourdan Wickliffe leads the team with 67 tackles, and has 4.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and an interception. Williams comes off his aforementioned IFL honor with 41 tackles and a team-high 6.5 tackles for loss. Tyrell Pearson's five interceptions is tied for the league lead, while Travonte Valentine and Desmond Raiford each have recorded two sacks. Nathan Criswell is back off IR. He's hit 23 of 30 extra point attempts and four of six field goal attempts with a long of 35 yards in five appearances this season.
