WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS:
Portland Trail Blazers vs. Golden St. Warriors
OVERVIEW
UPDATE: The Warriors have won this series, 4-0.
For the third time in four seasons, the Blazers and Warriors meet in the NBA Playoffs (see below). Each of those meetings come in a different round. This is being touted as a match up between two of the best backcourts in the NBA. The Blazers finished just four games behind the Warriors, who won the Pacific Division title. Portland is looking to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 when it lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games. Golden St. is looking for its fourth NBA title in the past five years. The Blazers have now reached the Conference Finals five times in their history. They advanced three previous times to the NBA Finals, winning the NBA Championship in 1977. The Warriors are appearing in their 11th Conference Championship series. They have won six Championships. The teams faced each other four times over the course of the regular season, splitting those games, 2-2. Each team won once on the other's home court. PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS
CJ McCollum scored 37 points in the Blazers' game 7 win over the Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Blazers guard Damian Lillard finished ninth in the league in scoring this season at 25.8 points per game, while backcourt mate CJ McCollum came in at 26th with 21.0 points per game. They will look for third and fourth possible options in forwards Maurice Harkless and Al-Farouq Aminu for boosts. Starting center Jusef Nurkic is out for the remainder of the playoffs with a compound fracture in his left leg suffered on March 27. Enes Kanter, who was picked up off waivers in late February, has been starting in the place of Nurkic. Kanter is a stellar offensive rebounder. The Blazers are supported off the bench by forward Rodney Hood and center Zach Collins. Hood went down with a knee bruise in their game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals, but is expected to play in this series.
The Blazers were founded in 1970 and are the first of the 1970-71 expansion teams to win an NBA Championship, which they earned in 1977. They played in the NBA Finals again in 1990 and 1992, but were defeated by the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, respectively. The Cleveland Cavaliers won their first championship in 2015-16. The third expansion team from that year, the Buffalo Braves, relocated to San Diego and then to Los Angeles as the Clippers and have yet to win an NBA title. The Blazers have been located in Portland during their entire 49-year tenure in the NBA. Lillard is the fourth Blazer to have been awarded NBA Rookie of the Year honors, winning unanimously following the 2012-13 season. The other Blazers to have that honor are Geoff Petrie (1970-71), Sydney Wicks (1971-72) and Brandon Roy (2006-07). The Blazers have qualified for the playoffs in 34 of their 48 seasons, including a 21-year streak from 1977 to 1997. Portland is making its sixth consecutive playoff appearance and 35th as a franchise. The Blazers and Portland are nicknamed "Rip City," after an exclamation made by original team broadcaster Bill Schonley following a swish made jumper by Jim Barnett against the Los Angeles Lakers early into their 1970-71 inaugural season. Former Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks head coach Terry Stotts is in his seventh season at the helm of the Blazers. He has a 325-249 regular season record and is 19-27 in the playoffs with the team.

INDIVIDUAL REGULAR SEASON STATISTICS
GOLDEN ST. WARRIORS
Stephen Curry scored all of his 33 points in the second half Warriors deciding game 6 win over the Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Warriors were paced in the regular season by guard Stephen Curry's 27.3 points per game, Kevin Durant's 26.0 and Klay Thompson's 21.5. They ranked fifth, eighth and 18th in the league, respectively. Like the Blazers, the Warriors are no strangers to shooting the ball from beyond the three-point line. Durant missed the Warriors game 6 series-winning game against the Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals with a calf injury. He already is listed out for game 1 of this series and possibly beyond. Center DeMarcus Cousins is expected to miss the beginning of this series with a quadriceps injury. Center Damian Jones expected back at some point early in the series. The Warriors will look for strong play from forwards Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala at least during the first part of this series and perhaps beyond.
The Warriors are one of the original NBA teams, having been founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors. The owners named the team after the Philadelphia Warriors, a former team which played in the American Basketball League in 1925. They won the Championship in that first season of the league, known then as the Basketball Association of America. They won the NBA Championship in 1956. The franchise relocated to San Francisco in 1962 and officially changed its moniker to the Golden St. Warriors in 1971. After having played for the past 48 seasons at Oracle Arena in Oakland, the team is expected to move to a new arena, the Chase Center, in San Francisco next season. In addition to their two championships in Philadelphia, the Warriors also won NBA titles in 1975, 2015, 2017 and 2018. Eighteen former Warriors players and four head coaches have been inducted into the NBA Hall of fame; most notably center Wilt Chamberlain, forwards Rick Barry and Chris Mullin, and guard Mitch Richmond, as well as head coach Don Nelson, who served two stints with the team. Former NBA guard Steve Kerr is in his fifth season as head coach of the Warriors. He has a 410-322 record during the regular season and 71-24 record in the playoffs (entering this series). Kerr won championships as a player in 1996, 1997 and 1998 with the Chicago Bulls, and in 1999 and 2003 with the San Antonio Spurs.

-The Portland nickname, "Rip City" was coined by former Blazers radio play-by-play broadcaster and current team ambassador Bill Schonley during the team's inaugural season. During the Blazers first home game against the Los Angeles Lakers, on November 3, 1970, forward Jim Barnett swished a jumper, prompting Schonley to exclaim "RIP CITY!" to the radio audience. The name has stuck for nearly five decades. Barnett is now the color analyst for the Warriors in-house television broadcasts.

FRANCHISES' HEAD-TO-HEAD PLAYOFF HISTORY
Despite the Warriors and Blazers each being around for several decades, they did not meet in the playoffs until three seasons ago. Perhaps ironically, this will be the third playoffs meeting between the teams in four seasons. The Warriors defeated the Blazers in five games in the Western Conference Semifinals in 2016, and swept the Blazers in the First Round in 2017. Below are the individual game results from those two series.

SERIES NOTES
-The Blazers Seth Curry and the Warriors Stephen Curry are the first set of brothers to ever face off in a NBA Conference Finals.
-This is the Blazers first trip to the Western Conference Finals since 2000 when they were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers, 4-3.
-Two former Blazers head coaches, Rick Adelman and P.J. Carlisemo, have gone on to serve as head coaches of the Warriors.
-Warriors current head coach, Steve Kerr, played for the Blazers from 2001 to 2002.
-The Warriors have made the Western Conference Finals each of the past five seasons. They've won the NBA Championship three of the past four seasons.
-Warriors guard Kay Thompson's father, Mychal Thompson, was the first overall pick by the Blazers in the 1978 NBA Draft.
-Warriors forward Kevin Durant began his career with the Seattle Supersonics/Oklahoma City Thunder; the team the Blazers defeated in the First Round of this year's playoffs, four games to one.
