BREAKDOWN
This is a match up of two teams going in opposite directions. The Rattlers are looking to do something in the IFL which has only been accomplished twice before; complete a perfect season. The Sioux Falls Storm did it in 2012 and 2015, going 14-0 and winning the United Bowl. The tough part of the schedule is complete, so any of their last five games could be seen as traps. The Strike Force have just one win on the season, but have shown competitiveness and improvement over the course of their first 10 games. The going is often rough for any expansion team, and San Diego has had its share of bumps and bruises. They will look to make a splash over the final four games of their season and, perhaps, pick up a win or two along the way. Arizona scored a franchise record in the first meeting between the teams; a 91-58 win over the Strike Force on April 6. Two weeks later, the Rattlers routed the Strike Force, 52-14, in San Diego. The Rattlers lead the IFL in scoring offense with 63.3 points per game and are first in rushing offense at 110.4 yards per game. The Strike Force possess the third-ranked passing offense at 165.1 yards per game. These teams will close out the regular season on June 15 in Phoenix.
Jeff Ziemba has been the starter at QB for the Rattlers much of the season, but he may find his time under center to be limited. After returning from the IFL from training camp with the Arena Football League, Drew Powell may just have taken over the job. Ziemba was last season's IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, but Powell was the IFL Most Valuable Player as he led the Barnstormers to a United Bowl championship. In his first action last game, he completed eight of 10 passes for 96 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Powell also rushed for 63 yards and three yards in the win over the Danger. Ziemba comes in completing 65.3 percent of his passes with 20 yards and three interceptions. It's very possible both see some action in this game. Jabre Lolley is back off injured reserve and ready to put his 48.8 yards per game and 12 rushing touchdowns to the test. Arizona also may feature Roland Genesy, Jr. out of the backfield. Jarrod Harrington is a big receiver who has 38 catches for 452 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Jamal Miles has 27 grabs for 311 yards and 11 scores. Miles has also rushed for five touchdowns. Davontae Merriweather leads the team with 64 tackles and has three interceptions, while Ricky Wyatt, Jr. has six sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss. Chris McAllister has 3.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss and Nikolaus D'Avanzo comes in with rhee sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. Allen Chapman and Dillon Winfrey have each intercepted five passes. Jimmy Camacho is 67 on his extra point attempts and five of nine on field goal tries with a long of 43 yards.
In many ways, the Strike Force are better than their 1-9 record indicates. At times, they've played pretty good on offense and on defense. A mid-season change at quarterback has Jihad Vercher starting his fifth game. He's seen action in all three previews games against the Rattlers, and was at the helm as the Strike Force picked up their lone win of the season. Vercher is completing 58.2 percent of his passes for 586 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He is averaging 20 rushing yards per game and has a pair of trips to the end zone on the ground. George Moreira, Jr. has 71 rushes for 198 yards and 10 touchdowns. Marques Rodgers, who leads the IFL in all-purpose yards with 1,597, is fifth in the IFL with 61.2 receiving yards per game and has eight touchdown grabs. Julian Stafford comes in with 36 receptions for 503 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns, and David Carter adds 24 catches for 283 yards and a pair of scores. Victor Dean, a red zone threat, should round out the group. Omar Cook leads the team with 42 tackles and 11 pass break ups, and has an interception. Tyler Thornton has 34 tackles and a pick. Terrence Fullum is the only defender to appear in all 10 of the team's games this season and has a sack and five tackles for loss. Sergio Phillips also has a sack for the Strike Force defense, as well as two tackles for loss. Veteran indoor/arena kicker Ernesto Lacayo is the league leader with a 96 percent conversion rate on extra point attempts (48 of 50) and is nine of 21 on field goal tries with a long of 53 yards.
