That title is weird. I mean, how can it be a cover and original at the same time?! Yes, my sister is right. I am a dork! I've been skeptical about sharing this. Honestly, I feel this is not my best work. By that I mean that I think it came out all right. I think it sounds less like me since my voice is usually a little deeper and lower. I recorded this 9 times over two weeks (when I had the chance!). This was easily the best.
The song is called Beautiful Disaster and it was originally done by Kelly Clarkson on her CD "Breakaway" (that's another song of hers I love!). It was added at the end of the CD as a live performance. It's basically about a man who is amazing, but is troubled or has a dark side. keep in mind, the word "beautiful" doesn't necessarily apply to physical appearance (though it certainly can). Basically, the man is amazing, but the fear is that his trouble or downfall can lead to the woman's trouble or downfall. That fear is what I believe the song to be about, though music is up to interpretation and I freely leave the lyric interpretation to the listener.
As I said, I recorded this nine times. Two of those were just the piano, two a capella, and the other five were a combination of both. I mentioned in the other thread that it is much more difficult for me to cover someone else than to perform my own compositions (those, however, aren't exactly a snap of the fingers for a musical perfectionist though). I also feel like I may have rushed the arrangement process. If that comes through, my sincere apologies. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Please comment. I'll make no bones about it, musicians are vain. We want to be loved, but we're never satisfied with our own work. If I ever tell you that I just "threw something together and I'm happy about it," this is your warning that that is a huge load in the pants. The other side of that is that I try to take constructive criticism and no comment will be ignored.
I have to tell you as far as performing lyrics are concerned, I feel Kelly (I hope it's okay if I call her "Kelly!") possesses probably the most full contemporary voice I've heard. There are classic lyricists and I adore them, but there's just something about Kelly which at least to me is very special.
I appreciate the support from my friends and I am glad you've been hounding me for this! I really appreciate that and I appreciate you listening to it. So without any further set up, here it is, Beautiful Disaster.
