PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Nate Davis tossed three touchdowns to three different receivers and ran for another score to help the Duke City Gladiators defeat the Northern Arizona Wranglers tonight at Findlay Toyota Center.
With the win, the Gladiators evened out their record at 2-2. The Wranglers fell to 0-4 with the loss. This was the first of four meetings between the teams this season. They face one another on July 3 at Albuquerque, July 17 at Prescott Valley, and August 7 back at Albuquerque.
Davis' five-yard run on the Gladiators' first drive put the visitors on the board before Caden Walters hit Terrance Bynum for a five-yard touchdown pass. It was Davis' turn next as he threw a 5-yard touchdown to Raymond Taylor. The Gladiators added a two-point conversion on a pass from Davis to Dello Davis and Duke City was up 14-7 after the opening quarter.
The Davis-to-Davis connection on a 30-yard touchdown with 5:47 remaining in the second quarter with Nate Davis running in another two-point conversion. Tim Parker's 25-yard field goal pulled the Wranglers to within 22-10 with 57 seconds left in the first half.
The only scoring in the third quarter came on a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Gladiators held a 28-10 lead heading into the fourth.
Duke City went up 34-10 on Jared Elmore's six-yard pass from Nate Davis with 11:16 left. Walters found Bynum again, this time for a 24-yard scare a little over two minutes later.
Nate Davis completed 13 of 20 passes for 148 yards with three touchdowns and a pick. Elmore had five receptions for 59 yards to go along with his score, while Dello Davis added a pair of catches for 41 yards. Gregory Dent, Jr., switching to defensive back from his wide receiver position, led the Gladiators with 12 tackles.
Walters went 13 of 29 for 135 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed eight times for 40 yards. Keyvan Rudd caught five balls for 72 yards and Bynum finished with a pair of scoring grabs. Keenan Black and Zayc Henderson each had five tackles to pace the Wranglers defense.
The Gladiators will host the Arizona Rattlers on June 19 with a 5:05 p.m. kickoff. The Wranglers are on the road on June as they visit the Spokane Shock at 7:05 p.m. All times listed are pacific daylight time. Click for the SCtoC 2021 Indoor Football League schedule.
