Breakdown
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona comes in looking for its first win in franchise history over a Spokane team which is one of the hottest in the IFL at the moment. The Wranglers have looked good in some stretches, but have yet to extend those into longer periods to make themselves competitive late in games. The good news is that at 0-4 they are only two games out of a potential playoff berth with plenty of football left to play. Caden Walters has been the team's quarterback since replacing Verlon Reed Jr. due to injury in their season opener. Walters likely will continue to get the start unless Reed is able to come back from injury. The latter was the IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017 with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. Aside from Walters' 40.3 rushing yards per game, there isn't much of a consistent running game. Keyvan Rudd is an outstanding receiver with 68.8 yards per game and five touchdowns, and Terrence Bynum has four scoring grabs. Look for Robert Brown, Emmanuel Lacey and Derick Calhoun to make plays on defense.
SHOCK
Spokane has won three straight since dropping their opener to the Frisco Fighters, who now stand at 4-0. The Shock's 50-32 win over the defending champion Sioux Falls Storm last week propelled them to second to the Fighters in the IFL Coaches Poll this week. The Shock boast the IFL's top defense which is allowing opponents a league low of 29.5 points per game. Charles McCullum's 206 yards and four passing touchdowns, and 33 yards and one touchdown rushing earned him IFL Player of the Week honors after the win over the Storm in week 8. McCullum is completing 57 percent of his passes for 564 yards with seven touchdowns and four picks this season. He also has four touchdowns on the ground. Davonte Sapp-Lynch may sit out with an injury in the second week in a row., If so, look for Speedy Noil to fill the void. Kamrin Solomon, Troy Evans, Jr. and Jordan Jolly make up a formidable trio of receivers. Cedric Poole and mike Green each have 33 tackles to lead the defense with Poole adding a team-high two picks. Ameris Bailey comes in with a pair of sacks.
