Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
By all accounts, Tucson has had a rough start to their second IFL season. After an season-opening loss to the Green Bay Blizzard, they had an impressive win over the Duke City Gladiators. Since then, the Sugar Skulls have dropped three straight, including a home loss to the Massachusetts Pirates last week by a late field goal. It was the second game of the year that the Sugar Skulls lost due to an opponent's field goal toward the end of a game. Demry Croft has started the team's first five games but, after the three-game skid, it's possible head coach Dixie Wooten may opt to replace him with E.J. Hillard; one of the most prolific passers in the league. Croft has thrown for 12 touchdowns and five interceptions, and leads the team in rushing with 251 yards along with six scores on the ground. Mike Jones is one of the best rushers in the IFL and has seven touchdowns of his own. Former Iowa Barnstormer Ryan Balentine and Jazeric Peterson lead a formidable receiving group. TT Barber and Delondo Boyd lead the defense, and Michael Minter comes in with two interceptions.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona comes at 0-5, but they put their best half of football least week at the Spokane Shock. They went into the break down just three, 27-24 and will certainly look to build on that this week. It's been a learning process for Dominic Bramante's group this season and they face a 1-4 Sugar Skulls team which also seem to be headed in the wrong direction. Verlon Reed, Jr. returned as the starter for the Wranglers last week and seemed to settle right in during the first half He threw for 169 yards and a couple touchdowns, and rushed for another touchdown. Reed looked like he was in his 2017 form when he was named IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. Emmanuel Jones will likely see some carries in the rushing game. Keyvon Rudd is a reliable target, including in the red zone. Skylor Clinton caught a pair of touchdowns in last week's loss. Robert Brown leads the Wranglers with 47 tackles. Emmanual Lacy, Micah Eugene, Jr. and Whitney Richardson each have an interception. The defense is looking for their first sack of the season.
