Arizona Rattlers 56, Spokane Shock 35

PHOENIX, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers scored 26 straight points in the third and fourth quarters to pull away and win their fifth game of the season tonight at Phoenix Suns Arena.
Arizona's win 56-35 win over the Spokane Shock lifts the Rattlers to 5-1 and in second place in the Indoor Football League standings. Spokane falls to 4-2. It was the first meeting between the teams this season as they will meet up on August 13 at Spokane.
With the Shock ahead 35-30 at the 12:42 mark of the third, the Rattlers took over. They scored on a four-yard run from Jamal Miles to take the lead for good less than four minutes later. The Rattlers scored on a 36-yard scramble from quarterback Drew Powell early in the fourth, and on a five-yard run from Troy Pelletier midway through the quarter. They sealed the win on Powell's 22-yard pass to Braxton Haley.
Shock quarterback Charles McCullum suffered a leg injury on the second-to-last play of the first half; just before a missed field goal by Sawyer Petre as time expired. McCullum was replaced by wide receiver Jordan Jolly in the second half. Jolly scored on a two-yard run on the Shock's first possession out of the break, but they were unable to get the offense moving thereafter.
McCullum put Spokane on the board early in the opening quarter with a nine-yard run before Darrell Monroe's eight0yard run knotted the game at 7-7. Troy Evans, Jr.'s 21-yard touchdown catch from McCullum put the Shock up 14-7, a score which lasted through the end of the quarter.
After a safety courtesy of Arizona's Nikolas D'Avanzo, Monroe scored on a five-yard pass from Powell to give the Rattlers a 16-14 lead with 5:12 remaining in the second. The two quarterbacks -- McCullum and Powell -- each scored on a pair of runs to make the score 30-28 in favor of Arizona with 33 seconds remaining in the first half. The Shock were driving for a late score in the half when McCullum's sprain occurred.
Powell finished eight of 13 for 84 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He rushed eight times for 103 yards and three scores. Haley led the Rattlers with three catches for 46 yards and a score. Devin Cockrell and Ricky Wyatt, Jr. each recorded seven tackles, while Larry Tharpe had two sacks.
McCullum went nine of 17 for 108 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for three scores. Davonte Sapp-Lynch rushed for 40 yards and gained 42 more through the air. Evans led all receivers with five receptions for 54 yards and a score. Markus Smith and Mike Green had eight tackles. Green also intercepted Powell once.
The Shock's scheduled game at the Louisville Xtreme in week 11 was cancelled as a part of the IFL terminating Louisville's IFL membership two weeks ago. Spokane will host the Sioux Falls Storm on July 10 at 7:05 p.m. The Rattlers will visit the Tucson Sugar Skulls on July 3 at 6:05 p.m. All times listed are pacific daylight time.
