Breakdown
PIRATES
The Pirates are coming off an unexpected bye week after their game against Louisville after the IFL terminated the Xtreme's membership in the IFL three weeks ago. At 4-3, they are poised to make a strong second-half of the season playoff run. They turned in a solid win on the road over the Tucson Sugar Skulls via a Josh Gab le 48-yard field goal as time expired. Alejandro Bennifield comes in completing 53 percent of his passes for 880 yards with 17 touchdowns and just three picks through seven games. He also has scored a team-high 10 touchdowns on the ground over the course of the season. Justin Stockton is one of the better backs in the IFL and is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 49.6 yards per game as a rusher. He also has rushed for three touchdowns and has caught another two. The Pirates have talented receivers, but Thomas Owens' 449 yards and 10 scores lead the list. Martrell Spaight leads the defense with 35 tackles and 2.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss. Aarion Maxey-Penton has two tackles on the season for the Pirates.
FIGHTERS
Frisco had, perhaps, it's most impressive win of the season last week at home against the Duke City Gladiators. They are undefeated at 5-0, but have not won a game by more than eight points. The point is, the Fighters simply get it done. Superior coaching by Clint Dolezel has a lot to do with that. The Fighters have been masterful at finishing games, which is a gift given rules involving the final minute of games. Jonathan bane has been spectacular in the team's initial five games. He comes in completing 61 percent of his passes for 764 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions. Demarcus Felton is the featured back at 33.9 rushing yards per game along with nine scores on the ground. Lance Evans and Mark Munson are the team's leading receivers with 273 and 152 yards, respectively. Munson leads the team with six touchdowns, while Evans has four of his own. Khalil Williams paces the team with 19 tackles. Charles Williams has a league-leading 4.5 sacks, and Joel Dullary possesses the Fighters' only two interceptions this season.
