Sugar Skulls 41, Gladiators 40

TUCSON, AZ - Demry Croft tossed a two-yard touchdown to Mike Jones, then rushed for a two-point conversion with eight seconds left to lift the Tucson Sugar Skulls to a 41-40 win over the visiting Duke City Gladiators tonight at the Tucson Convention Center.
The Sugar Skulls move to 2-6 and the Gladiators fall to 3-5. The teams see one another three times this season. The Sugar Skulls defeated the Gladiators 55-35 on May 30 at Rio Rancho on May 30. They meet again on August 14 back at Tucson.
Tucson held a 19-3 lead with 2:59 left in the first half, only to see Duke City take a 26-19 lead by the four-minute mark of the third. The Sugar Skulls tied it late in that quarter, and took a touchdown lead with 9:19 left in the fourth. The Gladiators tied with just over six minutes left, setting up some fireworks in the final minute.
The Gladiators took a 40-33 lead with 56 seconds left on Jared Elmore's seven-yard touchdown from Nate Davis. The Sugar Skulls drove four plays in 44 seconds, culminating in Croft's touchdown to Jones and two-point conversion run.
The Gladiators had 233 yards, while the Sugar Skulls totaled 154. Neither team turned the ball over.
Croft finished nine of 16 for 55 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed nine times for 45 yards. In addition to his receiving touchdown, Jones had 43 yards off 14 rushes and four touchdowns. Delondo Boyd led the Sugar Skulls defense with six tackles.
Nate Davis completed 23 of 41 passes for 232 yards with five touchdowns. Dello Davis caught 12 passes for 113 yards with two touchdowns and Xavier Amey had five receptions for 61 yards with a pair of scores. The Gladiators only rushed the ball five times, totalling a single yard. Solomon Muhammad had seven tackles to pace the defense.
The Sugar Skulls will visit the Spokane Shock on July 17 at 6 p.m. for the IFL Game of the Week on the Stadium television/streaming network. The Gladiators will head to northern Arizona to clash with the Wranglers on July 17 at 6:05 p.m. All times listed are pacific daylight time.
