Breakdown
SHOCK
With Spokane's win over the Tucson Sugar Skulls last week, and losses by the Arizona Rattlers and Frisco Fighters, the Shock pulled into a second-place tie with the Fighters. Both teams are just a half game back of the Rattlers. The Shock will look to continue its winning ways as they head to the Albuquerque suburbs to meet the Gladiators, who are looking to climb into playoff positioning. After dropping their opener to the Fighters, the Shock have won six of their last seven; including two straight. Blake Sims has filled in admirably for the injured Charles McCullum. Sims, a 29-year-old IFL rookie, played his college ball at Alabama and even played in the 2014 NCAA College Football Championship. Davonte Sapp-Lynch, half-brother of Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch is one of the best rushers in the league. The Shock feature a strong quartet of receivers in Troy Evans, Jr., Kamrin Solomon, Jordan Jolly and Keyvan Rudd. Mike Green is one of the top tacklers in the IFL. Micah Robinson and Ty Allen are players to watch on defense.
GLADIATORS
Duke City is inching its way into playoff positioning. The IFL originally planned for eight of it's 12 teams to make the postseason. There have been speculative rumors that with the termination of the Louisville Xtreme's membership in the league, the playoff field may be reduced to six, but there has been no clarification from the league. In an eight-team playoff and if the playoffs started today, the Gladiators would make the playoffs as the eighth seed. They are tied with the Green Bay Blizzard, but would earn the tiebreaker due to point differential ; and they do not face each other this season. Nate Davis leads the league by far with 51 touchdown tosses and is completing 61 percent of his passes. Duke City is working on their running game and Raymond Taylor is the featured back. Dello Davis and Xavier Amey are each averaging over 58 receiving yards per game and combine for 32 scoring grabs. Ray Jones, Jr. is the top tackler with 52 and also has a sack and four pass breakups. Paul Robinson comes in with 43 tackles and seven pass break ups.
