Breakdown
WRANGLERS
While Northern Arizona is not mathematically out of playoff positioning, things don't look great. Simply, the 1-9 Wranglers would need to win all four of their remaining games, coupled with the Sioux Falls Storm and Green Bay Blizzard each losing their remaining four. Additionally they would need some other tiebreaker help in order to have a chance. The Wranglers are playing for pride and trying to put something together to help them for next season. They've improved in each game this season. Verlon Reed, Jr. is a talented dual threat quarterback who will take the helm of the offense once again. He is completing 53 percent of his passes with a three-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has five rushing scores. Former Louisville Xtreme Todd Athey has become Reed's favorite target. Also look for James "JJ" Brania-Hopp and Emmanuel Jones to factor into the passing game. Derek Calhoun, Emmanuel Lacey and Russell Williams, Jr. are the major playmakers on defense. The defense is still looking for its first sack of the season.
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson is looking to avenge their week 10 loss to the Wranglers, accounting for Northern Arizona's lone win of the season. The Sugar Skulls have a tough road to the playoffs, but the good news is that they have won two of their last three with the only loss coming to the likely playoff bound Spokane Shock. After making the playoffs as an expansion team in 2019, the Sugar Skulls have struggled through much of 2021, but it appears they may be about to turn the corner. Should they win their final four games, they could finish at 7-7. Despite the team's struggles, rookie quarterback Demry Croft has shown promise He is completing 61 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and six picks., and has rushed for eight scores. Mike Jones is a bruising rusher who comes in averaging over 40 years per game and has scored 16 touchdowns. Ryan Balentine is the team's leading receiver and IFL all-time receiving leader. Delondo Boyd and Matt Elem lead the team with 51 and 47 tackles, respectively. Boyd also has an interception.
