Now days, you can buy the rights to name all kinds of things but this one doesn't sit well... The Moda Center? Ira always been the Rose Garden... And for a cool 20 million and 10 years, the Arabs we all have grown to love and appreciate... No more. The next thing you know, the Blazers will have some kind of brand on the front of their Jerseys just like the WNBA... Everything is commercial and for sale...sad but that's todays way... How do you feel about losing the Rose Garden?

I heard Stern wanted to put advertising on the jerseys. Most players seem not to like the idea. I really don't like how the name looks. At least call it the Moda Center Rose Garden or something like that. This just doesn't sound right.

Yeah, the whole thing just doesn't sit well, the people I ask don't like it either... They say that the logo will include a rose though... Who cares, still not a fan and I sure as hell would not buy a blazer Jersey with like a big Kraft logo on it...lol

I read that about the logo. I really don't like it and it's not even located in my town. They need to keep the jerseys fans buy logo-free. That would be a travesty if you had to buy the logo with the jersey.

I am not too happy with the name change. I know there is money involved, but I will always call it the Rose Garden!

I am not too happy with the name change. I know there is money involved, but I will always call it the Rose Garden! I don't think you're alone in that. I know people in Orange County who still call the Honda Center in Anaheim, "Arrowhead Pond" even though the name changed five or six years ago. I have a feeling "Rose Garden" will never completely go away. I don't think it should.

i absolutely despise the new name. Jools, you're right, it would have been better if they could have incorporated the term "Rose Garden" into the name. well, it is what it is.
perhaps if teams do things to make themselves more profitable, then we won't have such tightwads during the next cba negotiations.

Quite honestly, this name is crap. It will always be the Rose Qarden to me.

Here are the questions I would LOVE to ask Chris BABY about the name change. Did you even do a small sample to see what fans thought of the name change? You could have asked at least 10 people. In fact did you ask 10 people if they even knew the name MODA? Making a brand name change is soooo difficult which means you have to do your homework. Doesn't look to me like you did. And from a business 101 perspective, you had to know you were facing major obstacles, so don't release the name change UNTIL you can show us the logo. That might have at least appeased a few folks. Show us the logo after we all HATE the name? Seriously? Paul Allen is a billionaire, so why not use that to your advantage? He selected the name Rose Garden. You really think he is okay naming it the Moda Center? For a few bucks? Even a few million bucks? And what about the rest of the league. You think they know who MODA is. I'll bet the players are just jumping up and down with excitement over this change. Better pull out your resume Chris. You are history shortly.....

I can sum up this name change with one simple emoticon:

Ya know, I hate the name. I can't hide that in the least, but I can respect that the team is an investment for Paul Allen. The past decade has been a pretty painful experience for owning the Blazers, I'm sure. If making money is the thing that keeps the Blazers in Portland, I can respect that. I don't want to have to go through what the Kings just went through. So, I feel like I can understand how the move is important for the organization as a business, but Moda Center? C'mon, that's weak! Where's that Nike money!?

It's a strange name. Then again, maybe any name would seem strange. It's a little surprising to me that Nike didn't step in and buy the naming rights. That actually might have been pretty cool. I'm almost surprised that Nike has not done it already. I wonder how solid Moda Healthcare is. It makes me wonder if they'll still be able to renew the contract when it is up in 10 years.

We can always call it the Rose Garden.....just as people still call the Willis Tower the Sears Tower. And the area is still called the Rose Quarter, so seems only natural to keep that theme going. But yeah, sad that these days, that's the way things go with rights and what not.

But yeah, sad that these days, that's the way things go with rights and what not. We kind of like to call it the Former Rose Garden rather than the new name. I understand what you're saying though. It's the way things are going these days.
