FRISCO, TX - The Frisco Fighters scored 24 unanswered points in the second and third quarters as they dispatched the Green Bay Blizzard, 38-20, tonight at Comercia Center.
With the win, the Fighters move to 10-2, setting up a showdown next week against the Arizona Rattlers at Phoenix for the top seed in the IFL playoffs. The Blizzard, now 5-8, saw their playoff hopes dim with the loss. This is the first-ever and only meeting between the teams this season.
Green Bay scored first on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Damion May to Keshaun Taylor. The Blizzard led 7-0 at the end of the opening quarter.
Then Frisco took over. Malik Henry's five-yard touchdown pass to Mark Munson tied the game three-and-a-half minutes into the second quarter. The Fighters took lead on a two-yard run from Jerrod Heard. The Fighters led 14-7 at halftime.
The Fighters added to their lead on the opening drive of the third quarter on a 50-yard field goal from Kristov Martinez, and extended the lead midway through the quarter on Demarcus Felton's six-yard run. Frisco held a 24-7 advantage heading into the fourth.
Green Bay got back on the board early in the fourth quarter with Diondre Wallace's 44-yard interception return for touchdown. Heard extended the lead once again with a one-yard touchdown run. The Blizzard cut the deficit to 31-20 on Brook Bolles' eight-yard pass to Taylor. The Fighters iced the win with 51 seconds left on Henry's five-yard pass to Manny Arceneaux.
Henry went 18 of 29 for 135 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Felton added 34 yards to his rushing touchdown, and Arceneaux eight catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Tre Harvey had eight tackles and Cameron Hilton finished with two interceptions.
May finished five of 12 for 59 yards with a touchdowns and three picks. Taylor led the Blizzard with six catches for 67 yards and a pair of scores. Mason Gray, Michael Johnson and Bakari Triggs each had eight tackles for the Blizzard defense.
The Blizzard will close out their regular season on August 21 with a trip to Sioux Falls to face the Storm at 5 p.m. It will be the IFL Game of the Week on Stadium. The Fighters' season finale comes next week as they head out on the road to play the Arizona Rattlers on August 21 at 6:05 p.m. All times listed are pacific daylight time.
