Hello Sports Coast to Coast, it is I, Spiderfan the official analyst of this great forum and today I bring you the 7th edition of 2021's Web of Football. Without further ado, let us begin!
The lowlier Chiefs?
Remember how just 2 weeks ago I said that the Chiefs loss to the Bills was IMO the worst loss of the Patrick Mahomes era for the Chiefs? Well, the Chiefs have now suffered an even worse loss than that. 27-3 against the Titans and it felt far worse. Why? Because the Titans offense is the unstoppable force and the Chiefs defense is one of those revolving doors. But you don't lose a game like 27-3 with just bad defense, no you must also not produce offensively, and the Chiefs was completely shut down.. oh and they turned over the ball yet again.
I'm not exactly sure where the Chiefs go from here. I would like to say there is no way to go but up, but this is a Chiefs team that is shoddily built and (as also discussed earlier in the year) one dimensional and is 3-4 while having not suffered any significant long term injuries. If they end up with any major injuries any hope at the postseason would be gone, if it isn't already. I will say that the Chiefs aren't COMPLETELY dead yet as there is a whole second half of the season to play and the Raiders have been known to suffer collapses in the second halves of seasons in recent years and the Chargers are the football embodiment of the choking Squidward meme. So things could get interesting.
As for the Titans they are leading the AFC South by a good margin and I don't see that changing with the way Derrick Henry is playing. Oh and the fact that the rest of the AFC South sucks.
WHO DEY
Remember how last week I made the statement that the Ravens were the team to beat in the AFC? Yeah, the Bengals were HIGHLY offended by the statement. The Bengals offense completely chewed up and spat out the Ravens defense, the same Ravens defense that crushed the LA Chargers hype train. The Bengals defense shut down the always solid Ravens offense. If you would have said before the game "Bengals-Ravens is going have a score of 41-17" I would have been surprised that the Ravens beat the Bengals that bad. Never did I think the Bengals would be the ones handing out the beating. I guess the Bengals are the team to beat in the AFC now. Geaux Tigers... I mean WHO DEY
Sam Darnold is a scrub who can't play
I have been beating this drum for years, but the reason for that is because of the obnoxious hype surrounding a player who going back to college wasn't all that good. He turns over the ball as much as he scores TDs. It was that way at USC, it was that way with the Jets, and it is now that way with the Panthers. The Panthers had a cute little win streak to start the season and all the USC fans in the national media got their "LOL, the Jets shouldn't have traded Darnold" takes out there, but guess what? Reality is reality and reality says that Sam Darnold is a less talented version of Jay Cutler.
So with this being the case do the Panthers end their "We really wanted Deshaun Watson but are in limbo because Watson's professional existence is in limbo" era and just go ahead and trade for Watson despite his to put in lightly off field issues? If I'm the Panthers I don't make that trade simply because I wouldn't want to give up a treasure trove of draft picks for someone who at best case scenario is in NFL jail (i.e. suspended). But I don't have any insider information that the Panthers may have as to Watson's future status, so that is easy for me to say.
Other thoughts:
-So much for the Broncos being 3-0 huh?
-The Artists formerly known as Redskins need some Fitzmagic on their team.
-If the Dolphins actually do trade for Watson, the Texans will have good ammunition for their rebuild considering the Dolphins may end up with the number #1 pick this year.
-I'm surprised the Raiders have played as well as they have post-Gruden and as I keep saying it won't surprise me if they collapse based on recent years.
-Congrats to Tom Brady for throwing 600 TD passes!
-The one team that the Patriots still look like the Patriots of old playing against is the Jets. Go figure.
-Obligatory Pooh reference because of yet another rainy game on SNF
-I finally got around to watching the Peyton and Eli version of MNF, and my big takeaway is that they shouldn't have guests. Hearing Peyton and Eli talk football is sweet, hearing them make small talk with random guests is not.
-The Seahawks are going 7-10 aren't they? Dag nabbit.
ROAD TO 0-17
1 team is currently 0-7. I will keep doing this segment that team has a win or a tie. Team currently without a win or tie is:
Detroit Lions
Lions HC Dan Campbell went to Lowes, ripped a sink of out of a wall and threw it as hard as he possibly could at the Los Angeles Rams and still lost. The biggest factor? Matthew Stafford on the Rams and Jared Goff on the Lions. For many, many years Stafford would lead the Lions go epic game winning drives and that gained him the love and respect of many football fans. Goff on the other hand? He ain't Stafford. Thus when he had the opportunity to to lead the Lions on an epic game winning drive he threw a game losing INT. There is a reason why the trade was made and Sunday was why.
ROAD TO 17-0
1 team is currently 7-0. I will keep doing this segment until that team has a loss or a tie. The team that is currently without a loss or tie is:
Arizona Cardinals
There is an old saying "Good teams win. Great teams cover." The Arizona Cardinals were 18 point home favorites against the Houston Texans. As someone who keeps up with such things semi-closely that an 18 point spread is a morbidly obese spread. You don't see spreads like that in the NFL very often, if ever. Because of that, if given the opportunity I would have bet on the Texans because the likelihood of one NFL team blowing out another NFL team by 18 points or more is low. I'm glad I didn't bet because the Cardinals covered, thus proving that they are not just good, but great and have tied their best start to a season (in 1974 they also started 7-0). I can't wait for Thursday night against the Packers. That should be an awesome game.
We are almost halfway through the season at this point folks! Exciting times, so as always I hope ya enjoyed and I hope to see ya again next week. This is spiderfan out.
