Bucks 29, Blizzard 27
3/27/22 --
BISMARCK, ND - Jayru Campbell's five-yard touchdown to Damian Hayes, Jr., who normally lines up at defensive back, proved to be the difference as the Bismarck Bucks fought back in a see-saw contest to defeat the Green Bay Blizzard tonight at Bismarck Event Center.
Following the touchdown, with just six seconds remaining, the Blizzard had a chance at a field goal. Nick Jaworski's 48-yard try had the distance, but was wide to the right.
The Bucks have now won six straight games over the Blizzard dating back to last season, and now lead the series 6-2 after dropping their first two games in the IFL to the Blizzard in 2019. Bismarck is now 2-1 on the season, while Green Bay falls to 0-2.
The Blizzard struck first early in the opening quarter on a 20-yard touchdown from Torrance Gibson to Damian King, Jr. They added a point with a rouge on the ensuing kickoff. The Bucks struck back on a three-yard touchdown pass from Jayru Campbell to Edgar Allen Poe, Jr. The Bucks defense forced a long field goal, which was missed. The Blizzard had an 8-7 lead at the end of the quarter.
Campbell found Lex Rosario around the right side as the Bucks took a 14-8 lead midway through the second quarter. Bismarck forced a turnover on downs and retook control of the ball at their own four with just under a minute to play in the half. The Bucks added a 42-yard field goal from Chase Allbaugh as time expired in the quarter, and the Bucks took a 17-8 lead into intermission.
Bismarck extended their lead with a fourth-down, five-yard strike from Campbell to Poe; his second scoring catch of the game. Gibson's touchdown toss to Stephen Newbold drew the Blizzard to within 23-15 with just over four minutes to go in the third quarter. The Bucks held that lead heading into the final quarter.
Green Bay pulled to within two points on a three-yard pass from Gibson to Dez Stewart just over five minutes into the fourth quarter. With the Bucks driving, the Blizzard defensive back picked off a deflected pass in the end zone and returned it 53 yards for a pick six, giving the Blizzard a 28-23 lead with 4:08 remaining. That set up the late-game heroics from Campbell, who found Hayes for a five-yard score.
Campbell tossed four touchdown passes to three different receivers. Poe caught two, while Rosario and Hayes had one apiece for the Bucks. For Green Bay, Gibson finished with three scoring passes which went to Newbold, King and Stewart.
The Blizzard make a trip to battle the Iowa Barnstormers on April 2 at 5:05 p.m. The Bucks have a bye in week 4 before returning to action on April 10 when they host the defending champion Massachusetts for a 1:05 p.m. All times mentioned are pacific time.
