Barnstormers 45, Storm 31

SIOUX FALLS, SD - A special teams return and a fumble return in the second quarter proved to be the difference tonight as the Iowa Barnstormers took care of the Sioux Falls Storm at Denny Sanford Premier Center, 45-31.
With the win, the Barnstormers even their record at 1-1. The Storm fall to 2-1 on the year and suffer their first home loss of the young 2022 Indoor Football league season. The teams play twice more this season.
Iowa struck first on a 47-yard field goal from Gabriel Rui. Sioux Falls came right back to take the lead as Tasleem Wilson ran in from two yards out. with the Storm driving, Daniel Smith's pass was intercepted by Justic'e King, who returned it 45 yards for a touchdown and the Barnstormers owned a 10-7 lead which they held through the opening quarter.
The Storm came right back, re-taking the lead with a two-yard run from Bryson Denley. Darius-James Peterson's 25-yard touchdown pass to Kentrez Bell gave the Barnstormers a 17-14 with just over three minutes gone in the second quarter. Nearly four minutes later, Peterson found Bell again for a nine-yard score. Denley tried to cut into the league, but fumbled short of the goal line. The ball was recovered by J.R. Stevens, who returned it 49 yards to give Iowa a 31-14 advantage with 2:34 left in the quarter. The Storm countered quickly on Wilson's 15-yard scoring strike to Kahliq Muhammad to cut into the lead. Peterson found Bell for the third time of the night; this one of 22 yards with 10 seconds left. Sawyer Petre of the Storm nailed a 28-yard field goal to cut into the Barnstormers' lead. Petre attempted a deuce, but his kickoff was wide left of the goal post. Rui attempted a 40-yarder as time expired in the half, but his kick was wide right. Iowa took a 38-24 lead into halftime.
Sioux Falls came out and scored quickly in the third quarter on Nate Chavious' 14-yard run and the Storm's deficit was just a touchdown. The Storm go the ball back on a long missed field goal try by the Barnstormers, but they fumbled deep in Iowa territory giving the Barnstormers the ball back. However, the Storm were unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities and were still down 38-31 heading into the final quarter.
Iowa scored the game's last points at the 10:40 mark of the fourth quarter when wide receiver Eric Thomas ran it in from a yard out.
Peterson finished 13 of 24 for 176 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for the Barnstormers. He also rushed for 31 yards. Thomas caught six balls for 61 yards to go along with his rushing touchdown. Bell caught three passes for 56 yards and three scores. Alvin bailey led Iowa's defense with nine tackles, and three separate players recorded interceptions.
Wilson went 12 of 19 for 131 yards with a touchdown and a pick. He also scored a touchdown on the ground. Muhammed caught seven passes for 92 yards and a score. Chavious and Denley each rushed for a score. Marquis Hendrix had 1.5 sacks, while Keonte Chavies had a sack of his own. Five players had a five tackles for the Storm defense.
