Rattlers 48, Strike Force 10
3/28/22 --
SAN DIEGO, CA - The Arizona Rattlers dominated in all three facets in the game as they claimed their second victory of the season, a 48-10 win over the San Diego Strike force, tonight at Pechanga Arena.
Arizona took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and never looked back as they won their fifth straight -- and overall -- game over the Strike Force. The Rattlers swept San Diego 4-0 during the 2019 season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the teams have not met in over 1,000 days.
The Rattlers move to 2-0 on the season, while the Strike Force fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Strike force got the ball first and were forced to try a 27-yard field goal from Tanner Kuljian, but the kick was blocked by Arizona's Chris McAllister. The Rattlers capitalized with Drew Powell's nine-yard scoring strike to Isaiah Houston. San Diego drove to the Rattlers seven-yard-line, but turned it over on downs, giving the Rattlers the ball back midway through the first quarter.
Arizona scored again on a two-yard run from veteran receiver/back Jamal Miles to make the score 14-0 with less than two minutes into the second quarter. Another missed field goal by the Strike Force. They answered immediately with a 30-yard touchdown from Powell to Miles. The Strike Force got on the board on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Cris Solano to Marques Rodgers. Powell hit Calvin Phillips for a touchdown, and then the Rattlers recovered the onside kick attempt. A pass down the right sideline from Powell to Braxton Haley ended with London Iakopo recovering Haley's fumble. Kuljian hit a 46-yard field goal to capitalize for the Strike Force, before Powell's bomb to Houston gave Arizona a 34-10 lead which they took into halftime.
The Rattlers extended their lead early in the third quarter with a eight-yard run from Powell. Later in the quarter, Demry Croft came in for Powell and fired a touchdown pass to give the Rattlers a 48-10 lead, which they held going into the final quarter.
San Diego tried to score and got close, but were unable to cut into the lead. Interestingly, there was no scoring in the fourth quarter.
The Rattlers will visit the Duke City Gladiators on April 2 at 6:05 p.m. The Strike Force are back in action on April 2 as they visit the Northern Arizona Wranglers with a 6:05 p.m. All times mentioned are pacific time. Click for our SCtoC 2021 Indoor Football League schedule.
