BISMARCK, ND - The Green Bay Blizzard decided that seven would not be the lucky number.
After having lost six straight to the Bismarck Bucks, the Blizzard made a statement by blowing into Bismarck and recording a 55-14 win tonight at Bismarck Event Center. This was the third of three games this season between the teams. The Bucks on 26-23 at Bismarck on March 13, and won 29-27 at Green Bay. After starting 0-4, the Blizzard have won three of their last four and have emerged as a playoff contender.
Green Bay's last win over the Bucks came on June 1, 2019; a 51-10 win at home. Bismarck now leads the overall series 6-3. This has become a keen rivalry since the Bucks moved to the IFL from the CIF prior to the 2019 season.
The Blizzard scored two minutes into the game on Jack Sheehan's 50-yard touchdown to Keshaun Taylor. Jayru Campbell's one-yard run tied the game at 6-6 with 9:34 left in the first quarter. Sheen rushed in from nine yards to give Green Bay a 13-6 advantage. They would never trail again. It was the start of a 35-0 run through the fourth quarter. They led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Sheehan hit Steven Newbold for an 11-yard score five minutes into the second quarter. The Blizzard scored again on a Sheehan nine-yard touchdown to Taylor with 10 second to go in the first half. Green Bay took a 34-6 lead into the break.
The only score of the third quarter came on Sheehan's 31-yard touchdown to Newbold, extending the lead to 41-6.
Tahj Tolbert, in for Campbell, hit Benjamin Glines for six yards early in the fourth quarter. A pair of Sheehan touchdowns to Newbold and Taylor, for one and 37 yards, respectively, resulted in the final margin.
Sheehan is coming into his own as the Blizzard quarterback. He completed 15 of 17 pass for 232 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown. Taylor caught seven passes for 141 yards with four scores and Newbold scored on all three of his receptions, totaling 43 yards. Momodu Mbye had seven tackles, five pass break ups and an interception for the Green Bay defense. James Brown and Dajour Nesbeth each recorded an interception as well.
Campbell and Tolbert struggled during the game. Tolbert completed six passes for just 38 yards and a touchdown, but tossed three picks. Glines, typically utilized as a running back, had three receptions for 25 yards to go along with a touchdown through the air. Reginald Gantt led the Bucks with five tackles, while Gerod Holliman registered an interception.
