5/8/22 --
HENDERSON, NV - The Northern Arizona Wranglers took advantage of four Vegas Knight Hawks turnovers, and scored 28 straight points in the first half, and rolled to a 45-18 win tonight at Dollar Loan Center.
The Wranglers moved to 5-2 on the season and are just one game back of the Arizona Wranglers in the Western Conference standings. The Knight Hawks, who defeated the defensing champion Massachusetts Pirates last week, fall to 3-5.
This is the third of three games between these teams. The Knight Hawks won the first meeting, the season opener, by a 22-9 tally at Henderson on March 18. The Wranglers won at Prescott Valley, 30-20, on April 16. Northern Arizona now leads all time, 2-1.
Vegas got on the board first when Jerod Heard found Desmond Epps for a 41-yard touchdown on the right sideline. Epps caught the ball at the five and rolled into the end zone. Northern Arizona answered when Kaleb Barker rushed around the left side into the end zone for a two-yard score. The Wranglers led 7-6 at the end of one.

The Wranglers' Mercardo Anderson returned a fumble by Vegas' Elad Covaliu 19 yards to put Northern Arizona up 21-6 with 8:26 remaining in the quarter. They extended the lead with a three-yard touchdown pass to a leaping Quinten Randolph in the back of the end zone. Randolph celebrated the touchdown by finding the camera, blowing kisses and exclaiming "Happy Mother's Day." to the audience. Covaliu returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown as time expired and the Wranglers' lead at the half was 28-12.
Barker's 12-yard pass to the left side to a bouncing Glen Gibbons put Northern Arizona up 35-12 four minutes into the third quarter. After the Wranglers got the ball back, the Panthers forced a turnover on downs, but Marquis Bridges of Northern Arizona recovered Epps' fumble. Barker's one-yard run put the Wranglers up 42-12 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. The Wranglers took that lead into the fourth quarter.
Vegas got on the board in the fourth on Evans' five-yard draw up the middle. The Wranglers provided the final margin of victory with a 33-yard field goal from Brandon Fischer.
Barker threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another two for the Wranglers. Gibbons and Randolph each caught a touchdown pass, and Tucker rushed for a score. For the Knight Hawks, Evans tossed one touchdown pass and had another on the ground. Epps caught Evans' long scoring throw.
