Knight Hawks 68, Strike Force 23

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Vegas Knight Hawks took advantage of a depleted Stan Diego Strike Force roster to overwhelm their hosts and come away with a 68-23 win tonight at Pechanga Arena.
After taking a 26-point lead at halftime, the Knight Hawks never looked back in the second half as they improved to 4-5 on the season and 3-2 on the road. The Strike Force dropped their second straight and sit at 2-6 overall and are winless at home, 0-3. This was the first-ever meeting between the teams. They will face one another on June 11 at Henderson, Nevada.
The 68 points scored by the Knight Hawks was the most in franchise history, Their previous high came in a 53-27 win over the Bay Area Panthers on April 4. Interestingly, both totals came on the road. The 45-point margin of victory is also the most in the history of the Knight Hawks in their inaugural season.
Vegas scored first on a 17-yard touchdown toss from Jerod Evans to Jeff Ejekam. San Diego responded instantly with a 48-yard kickoff return from Ishmael Adams and the game was knotted at 7-7 less than three minutes in. The Knight Hawks added a score when Gerald Evans found Desmond Epps for four yards. The Vegas defense forced San Diego into a 55-yard field goal, which was blocked and sent through the back of the end zone. The Knight Hawks took advantage with a 31-yard touchdown from Evans to Kasey Allison. Vegas led 22-7 heading into the second quarter.
The Strike Force cut into the lead with an eight-yard touchdown from Evans to Rashad Ross. Epps responded for the Knight Hawks with a 49-yard kickoff return. Kemp was intercepted by Mister Harriel. The Knight Hawks took just one play to take advantage of the turnover when Evans found Allison for a 28-yard score. With the Strike Force driving deep into Vegas territory, Marques Rodgers fumbled at the one yard line. San Diego defensive lineman Javian Williams sacked Evans for safety and the Strike Force got the ball back. The Knight Hawks defense forced a turnover on downs and responded with a 22-yard touchdown toss from Evans to Epps. Vegas led 42-16 at the break.
Kemp was intercepted by Vegas' Jerricho Flowers on the opening drive of the third quarter giving the ball back to the Knight Hawks Jordan Conkrite scored on a 12-yard run to go up 49-16 early in the third quarter. The Knight Hawks scored on a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the quarter. The Knight Hawks held a 56-16 advantage at the end of three.
Ejekam recovered a squib fumble to give the Knight Hawks the ball back, and they capitalized with a three-yard touchdown from Evans to Allison. Marques Rodgers' 24-yard scamper up the middle for 24 yards made the score 62-23 with 13:13 remaining in the game. Vegas scored again on a one-yard run up the middle by backup quarterback Cameron Dukes. Strike Force turned it over on downs in San Diego territory, and the Knight Hawks ran out the clock.
Evans tossed for six touchdowns; three of them to Allison. Epps caught two scoring grabs and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Ejukam caught his first touchdown of the season tonight, and Conkrite and Dukes each rushed for a score each.
For the Strike Force, Kemp threw for a touchdown, but had three interceptions. Ross had a touchdown grab, and Adams added his kickoff return for touchdown.
The game was unique in that each team recorded a safety and a kickoff returned for a touchdown.
Kemp was making his first professional start. The San Diego native last played organized football for the University of Montana in 2012. Steve Cluely had started the past four games for the Strike Force suffered a shoulder injury on the last play of their loss to the Massachusetts Pirates last week.
