Northern Arizona Wranglers 34, Tucson Sugar Skulls 32
5/28/22 --
TUCSON, AZ - Brandon Fischer's 24-yard field goal with one second remaining lifted the Northern Arizona Wranglers to a 34-32 win tonight over the Tucson Sugar Skulls tonight at Tucson Events Center.
The Wranglers move to 8-2 on the season and, pending tomorrow's game against the Bay Area Panthers, have the best record in the Indoor Football League. This was the first win at Tucson in three three tries, and it results in a 3-3 all-time history against the Sugar Skulls. Each team now is 2-1 at home in the series.
The Sugar Skulls fall to 5-5 on the season; in a tie for third place in the Western Conference standings with the Duke City Gladiators (the IFL has yet to publicly release its tiebreaker procedures). The teams had previously split their games this season with each team winning at home.
In addition to his game-winning touchdown toss, Barker passed for two scores and rushed for another. Israel Tucker rushed for a pair of scores and caught another. Glen Gibbons had a receiving touchdown.
The Sugar Skulls' Mike Jones scored three touchdowns in the loss; all of which came in the first half, and Daquan Neal threw a scoring pass to Carrington Thompson, Sr.
The Wranglers will visit the San Diego Strike Force on June 4 at 7:05 p.m. The Sugar Skulls have a bye next week, but will be back in action on June 11 when they host the Bay Area Panthers at 6:05 p.m. All times mentioned are pacific time. Click for our SCtoC Indoor Football League schedule.
