Wranglers 35, Strike Force 17
6/4/22 --
SAN DIEGO, CA - The Northern Arizona Wranglers outscored the San Diego Strike Force 14-3 in the second half to down their hosts, 35-17, tonight at Pechanga Arena.
The win moves the Wranglers to 9-2 on the season, and in a tie for first in the Western Conference standings with the Arizona Rattlers -- a team they play next week with major playoff seeding implications. They have won six straight. The Strike Force fall to 2-9 overall and have yet to win a home game this season, going 0-5 at San Diego.
Northern Arizona scored on the opening drive of the game on a four-yard run from quarterback Kaleb Barker. Jorge Reyna's 35-yard touchdown bomb to Rashad Ross evened the score midway through the first quarter. The game was tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Ulice Gillard's two-yard run put the Wranglers up, but the Strike Force responded with a four-yard run from Reyna late in the second. Barker found Glen Gibbons III for a nine-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play in the first half and the Wranglers led 21-14 at the intermission.
The Pirates cut into the lead with a 40-yard field goal from Tanner Kuljian on their first drive of the second half. San Diego went up 28-17 on a one-yard run from Barker at the middle point of the third quarter. That score lasted through the end of that quarter.
Israel Tucker's 20-yard run early in the fourth resulted in the final score.
Barker tossed one scoring pass and rushed for two touchdowns. Gillard and Tucker rushed for a score each, and Gibbons caught Barker's touchdown toss for the Wranglers. Reyna passed for one touchdown and ran for another, and Ross had a touchdown grab.
The Strike Force will visit the Vegas Knight Hawks on July 11 at 4:05 p.m. The Wranglers will host the Arizona Rattlers on July 11 at 6:05 p.m. All times mentioned are pacific time. Click for our SCtoC Indoor Football League schedule.
