Breakdown
PANTHERS
Just when it couldn't get worse for Bay Area, they crashed into a brick wall last week at home against the Arizona Rattlers. Arizona's 62-point win was the largest margin of victory in the IFL this season and extended the Panthers' losing streak to 10. This game is a chance to get a little redemption against another Arizona team in Tucson. A loss to the Sugar Skulls mathematically eliminates the Panthers from playoff contention. They are last in both scoring (28.3 points per game) and points allowed (53.7). Joe Newman has led the team at quarterback for much of the season is more of a rushing threat than a passer. Veteran Vincent Espinoza, who saw time last week, could see significant action in this one. Duane Gary leads the team with 318 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Daniel Crowell, Jr. is the leading receiver with six touchdowns. Also look for Deondre Douglas in the passing game. Derik Calhoun is the team's top defender with 77 tackles, five for loss, and an interception. Jeffrey Allison has 48 tackles and Karmah Yates leads the team with three sacks. Stevie Artigue has been a bright spot in the kicking game this season.
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson sits in third place in the Western Conference and has an opportunity to move into third with a win in this game and a Duke City Gladiators' loss at the Eastern Conference leading Frisco Fighters. The Sugar Skulls have dropped two of their last three, so a game could put them back on track. Tucson is the only team without a bye in the last six weeks. They score 51 points per game (second) and allow 52 (13th). Daquan Neal has completed nearly 68 percent of his throws (tied for second) for 150.1 yards per game with 32 touchdowns, while adding 15 scores on the ground. Mike Jones leads the IFL with 22 rushing touchdowns and has 386 yards on the season. Arthur Jackson, Carrington Thompson, Sr, and Quinton Pedroza make a talented trio of receivers. Each have over 400 yards with Jackson's 12 touchdowns leading the team. Thompson and Pedroza have 11 and six, respectively. Ronald Collins and Rayshad Jackson each come in with 28 tackles and four sacks. Maurice Jackson adds another four sacks, while Robert Rolle IV leads the defense with a pair of interceptions. Logan Justus has been the Sugar Skulls kicker in all 10 games.
