FRISCO, TX - TJ Edwards' one-yard touchdown as time expired proved to be the game winner as the Frisco Fighters rallied to defeat the Duke City Gladiators, 47-46, tonight at Comercia Center.
The win puts the Fighters one step closer to earning the Eastern Conference title. They improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. They've won five straight; the longest win streak in the conference. The Gladiators fell to 6-6 and dropped to fourth in the Western Conference standings.
Frisco has now swept the season series over the Gladiators. The Fighters took the first game on the road, 60-33, on March 26. They edged the Fighters by a single point, 42-41, on April 23 at home. The Fighters have won all five meetings between the teams historically (3-0 at home and 2-0 away).
Edwards finished eight of 12 for 115 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 60 yards and a pair of scores. Justin Rankin, the league's leading rusher, had 60 yards and two touchdowns. Jerminic Smith led the Fighters with five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown, while Jerrod Heard has two grabs for 40 yards and a score. Rodney Allen led the Fighters defense with sic tackles and an interception.
Ramone Atkins went 19 of 31 for 240 yards, five touchdowns and an interceptions, and added a scoring run. Gregory Dent, Jr. caught five passes for nine yards and two touchdowns, while Dello Davis had eight grabs for 90 yards and a pair of scores. Jared Elmore added five catches for 43 yards. Byron Cooper and Darius Thomas recorded eight tackles apiece, and Dexter Reese had an interception.
