Sugar Skulls 58, Panthers 33
6/11/22 --
TUCSON, AZ - Mike Jones rushed for 74 yards and four touchdowns, and caught another, and the Tucson Sugar Skulls pulled away from the Bay Area Panthers, 58-33, tonight at the Tucson Convention Center.
The Sugar Skulls leapt into third place in the Western Conference standings courtesy of their win and the Duke City Gladiators' loss to the Frisco Fighters. They are 6-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play this season. Though the IFL has yet to officially announce its tiebreaking procedures, it appears that conference record is the first of them. This was the first-ever meeting between the teams. They play once more, on July 16 at San Jose, California.
Daquan Neal completed 14 of 22 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown. Quinton Pedroza caught five balls for 65 yards and a touchdown and Raheem Harvey had four catches for 34 yards and a score. Ronald Collins had five tackles to lead the defense.
Vincent Espinoza went 13 of 22 for 155 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He rushed for 50 yards and a pair of scores. Dre'Sonte Dorton caught four passes for 53 yards. Daniel Crowell, Jr. had three receptions for 38 yards and two touchdowns, while Isaiah Thomas had three grabs for 36 yards and a score. Jaron Bryant had five tackles and Brandon Dabney recorded an interception.
The Sugar Skulls will host the Vegas Knight Hawks on July 18 at 6:05 p.m. The Panthers will visit the San Diego Strike Force on June 18 at 7:05 p.m. All times mentioned are pacific time. Click for our SCtoC Indoor Football League schedule.
