Steamwheelers 46, Bucks 36

MOLINE, IL - The Quad City Steamwheelers scored twice inside of two minutes to complete a second half rally and hold off the Bismarck Bucks tonight, 46-36, at the TaxSlayer Center.
With the Bucks up 36-33 with just under two minutes remaining, they Steamwheelers scored on a six-yard run from quarterback E.J. Hilliard at the 1:52 mark of the fourth quarter. After Bucks quarterback Giovanni Sanders's fumble was recovered by Teon Burroughs of the Steamwheelers. Quad City scored on a Hilliard four-yard run with four seconds left to seal the deal.
The Steamwheelers improve to 7-6 on the season and are in the midst of a four-way battle for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks fell to 3-11 on the season and are now eliminated from the playoffs. This was the third of three meetings between the teams this season. The Steamwheelers won 36-17 on April 23 at Bismarck, and won again at Moline on May 20, 47-44. The Steamwheelers lead the overall series, including when the teams were in Champions Indoor Football, 5-2.
Quad City struck first on Robert Jones' eight-yard run. Xavier Quick scored on an am 18-yard run, but recently signed kicker Nick Dorka's kick was no good. The Steamwheelers led 7-6 at the end of one.
The second quarter was nearly all Steamwheelers as they went on a 19-point run. The first score came on a 13-yard pass from Hilliard to Londell Lee. They added another touchdown in the quarter when Hilliard hit Mike Carrigan for a 35-yard bomb on the opening play of their next drive. Hilliard rushed from six yards to put the Steamwheelers up 26-6 with 1:50 to go in the first half. Bismarck stopped the bleeding with Sanders' eight-yard pass to Rob Brown with six seconds left. Quad City let 26-14 at halftime.
Sanders hit Brown for a 22-yard touchdown and the Bucks were within five early in the third quarter. Thanks to the Bucks' Joseph Palmer to force Hilliard into an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone for a safety. Sanders' 12-yard run put Bismarck up for the first time in the game with 4:10 left in the third. Hilliard hit Mike Carrigan for a 14-yard touchdown and the Steamwheelers led 33-29 heading into the final quarter.
Sanders' rushed for a five-yard touchdown to put the Bucks back on top. That's when the Steamwheelers finished off the game in the final two minutes.
Hilliard finished seven of 12 for 123 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 64 yards and three touchdowns. Robert Jones rushed seven times for 66 yards and a score. Carrigan had four catches for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Nathan Sheets led the team with 7.5 tackles, while Antwan Smith and Kendell Jefferson each had an interception.
Sanders went 15 of 25 for 148 yards with two touchdowns and two picks. Sanders gained 44 yards on 13 carries with a pair of scores. Brown was stellar with nine grabs for 86 yards and two touchdowns. John Brunner added three catches for 53 yards. Robert Brown, Jr. led the Bucks defense with 6.5 touchdowns.
