Blazers reach agreement with center Chris KamanThe Trail Blazers have made their first splash in the 2014 NBA free agency pool, reaching an agreement with veteran center Chris Kaman, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. The agreement is for two years for approximately $9.8 million. He will earn $4.8 million the first year, and the second is partially guaranteed for $1 million. Portland will be the 7-footer's fifth team in his 11 seasons in the league. Kaman will be entering his 12th season. He spent the first eight with the L.A. Clippers, and then a year each with New Orleans, Dallas and the L.A. Lakers. His career averages are 11.7 points and 7.9 rebounds in just over 28 minutes per game. He registered career highs of 18.5 points in 2009-2010 and 12.4 rebounds in 2007-08, both seasons with the Clippers. He was named an NBA all-star in 2010. "I want to be back in playoffs and help the team get back to wining the title. I think the Trail Blazers are right at that level," Kaman said. Kaman, who holds dual citizenship in the United States and Germany, played for the latter's national team in the 2008 Bejing Olympics. In Portland he will be tasked with backing up Robin Lopez. "He's definitely going to help us. I think it was a great decision," Lopez told CSNNW.com. "I know he has a great relationship with (Blazers Assistant) Coach [Kim] Hughes from his days as a Clipper and he's tough to guard. I'm excited for us. We should be much more improved." The Blazers have a $2.1 million bi-annual exception in which they are expected to sign a backup point guard for Damian Lillard. Kaman can officially sign his Blazers contract at the conclusion of the free agency moratorium, July 9 at 9 p.m. pacific time. Click to view Kaman's NBA.com player page. I was pleasantly surprised by this. It came straight outta left field, considering there was no mention of the Blazers ever speaking with him. Apparently, the Blazers thought that they weren't going to be able to sign Hawes or Frye, hence the offer to Kaman. Well, we could definitely use a legit center to our bench, that's for damn sure. Now, I wonder what's gonna happen between T-Rob and Freeland?
Also, welcome to Rip City big man!! You are gonna love it!

He's older now but I think he still has enough to back up Lopez. I agree with you. This came out of nowhere! Olshey really does like to keep things quiet! That's good since it probably threw some other teams off. This is a solid move for the Blazers given what they had to work with.

When I first heard this I was skeptical. But the more I think about it the more I am beginning to like what he can do for us. We are going to ask him to back up Fropez and maybe the L-Train some. This is probably a better move than a lot of people are thinking.

The only two people I knew who were really excited about Fropez were Kasey and Julie because of the Stanford connection. It really did work out well. He does have some history with injury but this could be a very good pick up for us. I was looking at his twitter photos and he seems to have a good sense of humor. That should go over well here!

He was exactly the guy we needed last season. Maybe Kaman off the bench will be exactly what we need this season.

At first I was not so sure about the signing, but the more I think about it the more I like it. His presence and experience will help back up RoLo and hopefully he can mentor Meyers Leonard at the same time.

this really came out of left field. i'm not sure this is a great signing, but Kaman has been a starter and he's a quality center. maybe he can give us some consistency off the bench.

I like the idea of having another guy who can mentor Meyers. The thing that bothers me is that no one is talking about mentoring Joel. If Joel takes another step this summer like he did last summer, he might be the one we want to keep long term.

I wasn't surprised as we tried to get him last year. But I am genuine happy that we got him. He is not the top of the line center, but he is a hell of a center for what we want. In fact, I just wanted a big like Prizbilla to carry on when Lopez is taking a break.
On to Steve Blake, Kassandra and I was upset when he left, and I for one is glad to have him back.
I think Olshey did us good in acquiring what we needed. I wasn't against Mo, but I like Steve better. He will give you a full days work for a full day pay. Unlike Mo that can shoot us out of the game or win the game. The only thing is we will need a 6th man off the bench, I think we have that in TRob, Cj or Will the Thrill. I just don't know which one. I am leaning towards Barton as he with TRob brings in the energy. But having Kaman on the second squad will help
I feel that Steve and DLill will be able to play good together, alias Steve and BRoy

But having Kaman on the second squad will help I feel that Steve and DLill will be able to play good together, alias Steve and BRoy That makes a lot of sense since we went after Kaman last year. What surprised me is that no one was reporting anything about us going after him this year. That might have been because everyone was talking about LeBron James. With Kaman's experience and ability, we can do a lot with matchups on the front line. A few people were talking about Blake but I did not think we could get him since the bi-annual exception is about half of what he made last season. These are good moves for us because they bring us some stability. They are also good locker room guys which as you know is important to us fans. T-Rob and Barton have a real chance to shine this season. I think they will get the opportunities. McCollum is a question mark to me. I think he can do the job, but I kind of have to see it to believe it. You should post more on here. You have a great take on the team!
