The following is the full schedule for the XFL's 2023 re-launch season.
The XFL returns to action after seeing its inaugural season cut short after five weeks of play due to the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in prolonged stay-at-home orders and prohibitions on large gatherings in order to try and control the spread of the virus. As a result, the XFL declared bankruptcy a month later.
The second XFL was owned and funded by Vince McMahon's Alpha Entertainment. Like the predecessor XFL from 2001, the new XFL followed a similar structure with eight teams owned and operated by the league. Unlike the original XFL from 2001, the new league shared the name and trademark, but the new XFL did not rely on professional wrestling inspired figures and entertainment elements.
The assets of the XFL were auctioned off and purchased by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, business partner and former wife Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital founder Gerry Cardinale. Under the new ownership group, Alpha Acquico, LLC, the XFL announced a new brand identity, streaming its logo.
The league is made up of eight franchises, as stated above, are owned and operated by the league in a single entity business model. Seven of the eight teams return from the 2020 XFL Season.
The DC Defenders, Houston Roughnecks, and St. Louis BattleHawks (now simply Battlehawks without a capital H) remain under their previous monikers, while the Dallas Renegades and Seattle Dragons changed their names to the Arlington Renegades and Seattle Sea Dragons.
Two teams, the New York Guardians and Tampa Bay Vipers, have relocated in 2023. New York has moved to Orlando, Florida as the Orlando Guardians, marking the return of professional football to Orlando since the Orlando Apollos of the short-lived Alliance of American Football in 2019. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has moved to Las Vegas, Nevada as the Vegas Vipers. Both markets were home to XFL teams in the original XFL back in 2001 (Orlando Rage, Las Vegas Outlaws), though only Orlando will play in the same stadium as its predecessor.
The Los Angeles Wildcats are the only team to have folded, replaced by the San Antonio Brahmas.
The East and West Divisions have been replaced by the North and South Division. DC, Seattle, St. Louis and Vegas make up the North Division, while Arlington, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio make up the South Division.
The league's comeback season will span 10 weeks, beginning one week after Super Bowl LVII on February 12th, and ending the weekend of April 22nd. Each XFL team will host 5 home games and play 5 road games. The schedule will feature home-and-home series against division rivals, and one game against each team in the other division.
At the end of the season, the top two teams from the North and South Divisions will advance to the playoffs, which will consist of an North and South Division Semifinal. The winners of both divisions will advance to the XFL Championship, with the host venue revealed at a later date to take place on May 13th.
The XFL will carry over from 2020 that teams will not have a kicking extra point. The single point after will be replaced by a scrimmage play, which varies in point value depending on how far the scoring team chooses to take the snap from the goal line. A 2 yard attempt would yield 1 point, a 5 yard attempt yields 2 points, and a ten yard attempt yields 3 points. This rule was in the original XFL, adopted during that league's playoffs.
The league has carries over its television contracts with ABC/ESPN/ESPN2, however FOX and FS1 are not returning as FOX partnered with NBC as the broadcast stations for the United States Football League. In its place, FX will also broadcast XFL games. FX will carry 14 games, the majority to be broadcasted over the first seven weeks, while ESPN will carry 11 games, ESPN2 will carry 10 games, ABC will carry 7. ESPN and FX will simulcast the Week 1 game between Orlando and Houston.
During the payoffs, ESPN & ESPN2 will air the North and South Division Semifinals, while ABC will air the XFL Championship.
Each week's games will appear most recent at the top of the post. Final results will be updated following the conclusion of the games and listed in ascending order. All game times are listed in the Pacific Timezone (PST) and are subject to change. Where applicable, click on the final score to view the box score.
