Wranglers 48, Knight Hawks 42

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Glen Gibbons, Jr rushed for three touchdowns, including the game winner, and Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman caught three touchdown passes as the Northern Arizona Wranglers put away the Vegas Knight Hawks, 48-42, at Findlay Toyota Center tonight.
Northern Arizona, the defending Indoor Football League champions, earned their first win of the season and move to 1-1 overall and also 1-1 at home. The Knight Hawks, in their second season as a franchise, fell to 1-1 after having defeated the Vegas Knight Hawks in their season opener at home last week. The teams have one more meeting this season; April 28 in Henderson, Nevada.
The Wranglers struck first when Glen Gibbons, Jr. took the pitch and dove in for an eight-yard touchdown around the right side. The Knight Hawks answered on a 15-yard run around the left side from Davonte Sapp-Lynch. The Wranglers scored immediately when Andre Williams returned the following kickoff 48 yards for a score. They followed that up with a two-point conversion throw from Garrett Kettle to Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman. Stevie Artique's 44-yard field goal went wide right, giving the Wranglers the ball back. Northern Arizona led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Gibbons ran in from a yard out early in the second to give the Wranglers a two-touchdown lead. The Knight Hawks turned the ball over on downs at their own 21-yard line. The Wranglers wasted no time in scoring as Kettle found Chiaokhiao-Bowman for a 21-yard score. They added a rouge on the ensuing kickoff as they prevented the ball from being returned out of the end zone. Sapp-Lynch pulled Vegas closer with a five-yard touchdown run with 3:26 remaining in the half. Northern Arizona turned the ball over on downs with 49.1 seconds remaining. The Wranglers' Dorian Walker intercepted Neal and returned it to the 13-yard line to stop Vegas' drive. The Wranglers went into halftime with a lead of 29-14.
Davonte Sapp-Lynch's three-yard run with just under eight minutes left in the fourth quarter made the score 29-21. Kettle hit Chiaokhiao-Bowman for an eight-yard touchdown and the Wranglers were up again by two touchdowns. Daquan Neal found Quentin Randolph for a 30 yard scoring strike at the end of the third and it was a one-score game. The Wranglers led 35-28 at the end of three.
Kettle's 24-yard touchdown to Chiaokhiao-Bowman once again put the Wranglers up by 14 points with just over 12 minutes to play. The Knight Hawks narrowed the gap on Neal's 10-yard touchdown toss toe Quentin Randolph with 5:50 to go. However, Stevie Artique's point after attempt went wide right, leaving the score 42-34. After _ intercepted Kettle in the end zone, Neal drove the Knight Hawks down field and threw a 17-yard touchdown to Caleb Holley, who was wide open in the left side of the end zone. Neal and Holley connected on the two-point conversion to tie the contest at 42-42 with just 26 seconds remaining. The Wranglers drove down field and scored the game winner when Kettle flipped the ball to Gibbons who ran around the right guard into the end zone. Vegas had one last chance, but Neal was intercepted by the Wranglers' KiShawn Walker to seal the win.
Kettle completed 11 of 21 of his throws for 137 yards with three touchdowns and a pick, and rushed for 28 yards. Jarrod Ware, Jr. had 36 yards on the ground. Chiaokhiao-Bowman finished with 106 yards off seven receptions to go along with his three touchdown catches. Walker led the Wranglers' defense with seven tackles. He and Walker each had an interception.
Neal finished 15 of 22 for 159 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Sapp-Lynch added 65 yards off nine carries to accompany his three touchdowns. Randolph collected six passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns, and Holley had five grabs for 60 yards and a score. Javon Jackson led Knight Hawks tacklers with six takedowns and Mister Harriel recorded an interception.
The Knight Hawks had a slight edge in total offense, 231 yards to 219, with an edge in the passing game of 22 yards. The teams were both penalized four times; 37 yards for the Knight Hawks and 26 yards for the Wranglers.
