Fighters 70, Strike Force 56

FRISCO, TX - After a fiery showing by both teams, it was second-half defense which proved to be the difference as the Frisco Fighters fended off the visiting San Diego Strike Force tonight, 70-56, at the Comercia Center.
San Diego held a 50-42 lead at halftime. The Fighters moved to 8-1 on the season and are 1.5 games ahead of the Quad City Steamwheelers in the Eastern Conference standings. The Fighters also improved to a perfect 5-0 at home and an identical mark in conference play. As it stands, they would have home field advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs if the season were tobegin following this week's action. This was the first-ever meeting between the teams and only meeting between them this season.
Fighters quarterback TJ Edwards accounted for eight touchdowns; three passing and five rushing. he finished 10 of 14 for 191 and threw no interceptions, while rushing 11 times for 78 yards. Ed Wesley rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown. Jerminic Smith caught four passes for 80 yards and a score, and Jordan Jolly had three grabs for 59 yards. Michael LoVett recorded five tackles to lead the defense.
San Diego's Nate Davis completed 14 of 34 passes for 247 yards with six touchdowns and no picks. Edward Vander rushed for a pair of scores. Kentrez Bell caught seven passes for 143 yards, and Carlos Thompson, Jr. had give grabs for 82 yards. Both receivers caught three touchdowns apiece. Tariq Thompson's 10 tackles led the Strike Force defense.
The Fighters outgained the Strike Force in total offense, 311 yards to 259, including a 118-yard advantage in rushing. San Diego had a 56-yard edge in the passing game. Frisco was penalized 12 times for 66 yards and San Diego was flagged eight times for 64 yards.
The Fighters will visit the Massachusetts Pirates on June 3 with kickoff set for 4:05 p.m. The Strike Force will host the Tulsa Oilers on June 4 for a 3:05 p.m. kickoff. All times listed are pacific daylight time. Click for our complete 2023 IFL Schedule.
