PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - It took some extra football, but Drew Powell accounted for eight touchdowns as Arizona Rattlers found a way to come away with a 63-62 double-overtime win over the Northern Arizona Wranglers tonight at Findlay Toyota Center.
The Rattlers moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference standings, just a game behind the Bay Area Panthers, who won their matchup tonight against the visiting Duke City Gladiators, 69-62. The Rattlers have now won three straight and stand at 6-4 on the season. The Wranglers fell to 5-5 and sit in fourth place in the conference standings. The top four teams from each IFL conference reach the playoffs.
This is the second of three meetings between the teams. The Rattlers ran away with a 60-34 win at Phoenix on May 20. They will conclude the season in the final week of the regular season, on July 15.The Rattlers lead the overall series over the Wranglers, 5-2, including a 2-1 mark at Prescott Valley.
Arizona took the opening kickoff and scored quickly on a 34-yard strike down the left sideline from Drew Powell to Braxton Haley. Northern Arizona countered on a 10-yard run around the right side from quarterback Garrett Kettle. The Wranglers' KiShaun Walker recovered the Rattlers fumble on the ensuing kickoff in his own end zone to give the home team the ball at their own five-yard line. The Wranglers capitalized when Kettle found Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman in the right corner of the end zone on fourth down for a 10-yard touchdown. Northern Arizona claimed a 13-7 lead at the end of the opening quarter with the Rattlers driving.
The Rattlers came back, scoring on a seven-yard touchdown toss from Powell to Haley two-and-a-half minutes into the quarter. The Wranglers were stopped when Brandon Fischer's 31-yard field goal try sailed wide right. With the Rattlers driving, Powell's fumble was recovered by the Wranglers' Shahman Moore. Northern Arizona wasted no time in responding as Kettle launched a 43-yard touchdown bomb to Chiaokhiao-Bowman. The Rattlers came right back, scoring on Powell's four-yard run around the left guard. Shane McInerny attempted an onside kickoff the Rattlers, but it was recovered by the Wranglers' Travion Banks deep in Arizona territory. Kettle's three-yard draw up the middle gave Northern Arizona the lead back with just over 54 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The Rattlers took the lead again with a two-yard touchdown toss from Powell to Isiah Scott with 10 seconds remaining in the half. Fischer's 40-yard field goal try went wide right and Arizona went into the half with a 28-27 advantage.

Powell's five-yard draw up the middle put the Rattlers up 35-34 with just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter. Northern Arizona retook the lead when Kettle found a wide open Chiaokhiao-Bowman in the shallow-right corner of the end zone for 19 yards. After a holding penalty on the ensuing kickoff pushed the Wranglers back 10 yards, Fischer's point-after try went wide right, leaving the Wranglers with a five-point lead late in the quarter. The Rattlers bit back with a seven-yard scoring toss from Powell to Isaiah Huston as time ran out in the third. Arizona led 41-40 heading into the final quarter.
Northern Arizona drove deep into Rattlers territory, but turned over the ball on downs giving Arizona back the ball at the six-yard line. Powell's six-yard scrambling touchdown to Scott once again put the Rattlers up with just over four minutes remaining. The Wranglers engineered a long drive going under a minute to play and scored on a six-yard strike from Kettle to Chiaokhiao-Bowman with 31 seconds remaining. The duo then connected for the two-point conversion to knot the contest at 48-48. Shane McInerny of the Rattlers attempted a 26-yard field goal which veered just to the right, bringing on overtime.

Kettle and Chiaokhiao-Bowman once again connected for the two-point conversion and, with the game tied at 56 apiece, the second overtime is upcoming.

They attempted the two-point conversion, but Kettle's throw was intercepted by the Rattlers' Dillon Winfrey. Arizona had their chance, and that's when Powell scored what turned out to be the game-tying touchdown. McInerny did the rest and the Rattlers escaped with the win.
Powell completed 17 of 30 passes for 181 yards with five touchdowns, and rushed for 48 yards and three scores. Haley turned out to be Powell's top target on the night with seven catches for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Huston had seven grabs for 49 yards and a touchdown. Davontae Merriweather's nine tackles paced the defense, and Winfrey added eight of his own. Chris Terrell tallied a sack.
Kettle finished 16 of 26 for 222 yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for 23 yards and two touchdowns. Gibbons rushed for 32 yards and a touchdown, and grabbed a pair of passes for 36 yards. Chiaokhiao-Bowman led all receivers with nine receptions for 136 yards and four touchdowns, and Wisniewski added three grabs for 39 yards and two scores. Shahman Moore led the defense with 12 tackles and Theo Majette contributed a sack.
Northern Arizona amassed 276 yards of offense to 255 for Arizona. The Wranglers had an advantage of 48 yards in the passing game, while the Rattlers had a 17-yard edge in the running game. The Rattlers were penalized seven times for 117 yards, while the Wranglers were flagged four times for 24 yards.
