WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates outscored the Tulsa Oilers 10-0 in the final six minutes to secure a 43-24 win over the Oilers tonight at the DCU Center.
Massachusetts' win moves it to 9-3 on the season and a perfect 7-0 at home. The Pirates sit in second place in the Eastern Conference. If they remain in that position through the end of the season -- or move up to first -- they would host a first round playoff game. The Pirates defeated the Oilers 54-48 on May 27. The Pirates lead the overall series 2-0.
The Oilers fall to 1-12 on their inaugural season in the IFL.
Anthony Russo started his 11th straight game for the Pirates since Alejandro Bennifield went down to injury in the season opener. Russo threw for 70 yards and a touchdown before Bennifield replaced him in the first half. the letter finished 14 of 20 for 115 yards with two touchdowns, and 30 yards and a score on the ground. Jimmie Robinson rushed 13 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns, Fabian Guerra had five receptions for 79 yards, and Isaac Zico has four grabs for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Calvin Bundage and Momodou Mbye had 7.5 and seven tackles, respectively.
Andre Sale completed 17 of 34 throws for 125 yards with four touchdowns and no picks. Montero Dubose had three catches for 30 yards, and Joshua Crockett finished with three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Jones led Tulsa with 10.5 tackles, while Tre Harvey added eight of his own.
Massachusetts gained 282 yards of total offense to 146 for Tulsa. They held a 76-yard edge in rushing and 60-yard advantage the passing game. The Pirates were penalized 13 times for 90 yards and the Oilers were flagged five times for 25 yards.
