Steamwheelers 63, Barnstormers 35

MOLINE, IL - Apparently, last week was a bit of a fluke.
Just seven days after the Iowa Barnstormers exploded to an 80-41 win over the Quad City Steamwheelers, the Steamwheelers returned the favor. Quad City's 63-35 win kept it in third place in the IFL's Eastern Conference. The Steamwheelers, 8-5, are a half game ahead of the fourth-place Sioux Falls Storm after week 13's slate of action. They defeated the Barnstormers in the first of three matchups this season, 60-34, on May 6 at Moline.
The Barnstormers, who had won two straight, fall to 3-10 on what has been a disappointing season for the franchise. The overall series is now tied 4-4 with the Barnstormers 4-1 at home and the Steamwheelers 3-0 at home.
E.J. Hilliard finished 10 of 13 for 121 yards with two touchdowns, and 50 yards and three scores on the ground for the Steamwheelers. Shane Simpson rushed eight times for 117 yards with a pair of scores. JJ Holloman caught six passes for 97 passes and a touchdown to lead the receiving group. Romon Morris' 10 tackles led the Quad City defense. Marquis Hendrix and Kendricks Gladney, Jr. had nine tackles apiece, while Darreon Jackson had an interception.
Daniel Smith, making his third start for Iowa, went 19 of 31 for 153 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Antonio Wimbush rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown, and caught five passes for 38 yards and a pair of scores. Dom McNeil finished with seven catches for 58 yards. Justic'e King led the defense with seven tackles, while Tyrell Pearson added six tackles.
Quad City gained 302 yards of total offense to 217 for Iowa. The Steamwheelers, powered behind Simpson, held a 107-yard advantage rushing yards, and Iowa had a 32-yard edge in receiving yards.
Both teams are on byes next week. The Barnstormers will host the Sioux Falls Storm on July 8 for a 5:05 p.m. kickoff.
