SAN DIEGO, CA - Nate Davis threw five touchdown passes as the San Diego Strike Force outscored the visiting Vegas Knight Hawks by 37-14 in the second half en route to a 58-42 win in tonight's regular season finale tonight at Pechanga Arena.
Both teams had been eliminated from playoff contention prior to this week. The Strike Force's win gives them a franchise record six wins on the season. They finish the year with a 6-9 mark and in fifth place in the Western Conference. They completed the season sweep over the Knight Hawks, having defeated Vegas 37-36 on April 8 at Henderson, Nevada.
The Knight Hawks completes their season with a 5-10 record and seventh in the conference. They lost six of their final seven games on the season, just their second in the IFL.
The overall season series between the teams is now 2-2, with each team holding a 1-1 record at home.
Davis finished 13 of 18 for 136 yards to go along with his five touchdown tosses. Trevon Van rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown, and backup quarterback Rudy Johnson rushed for a pair of touchdowns. Kentrez Bell, the league's leading receiver, had six catches for 58 yards and a score. Four other players caught a touchdown each. David Tolentino led the Strike Force defense with 4.5 tackles, while Ben Moa and Byron Cooper each recorded a sack.
Daquan Neal went 10 of 18 for 66 yards and three touchdowns for Vegas. He also rushed for 35 yards with a trip to the end zone. Randal Grimes amassed 51 yards off three receptions, while Caleb Holley caught five passes for 36 yards and three scores. Kalen hicks and Matt Elam each had four solo tackles to pace the Knight Hawks' defense, while Jericho Flowers had two tackles for loss.
San Diego accumulated 205 yards of total offense to 184 for Vegas. The main difference came in the passing game, where the Strike Force had an edge of 23 yards in the passing game. The Knight Hawks were penalized 13 times for 122 yards, while the Strike Force were flagged 12 times for 87 yards. Vegas had an advantage of little over three minutes in time of possession.
