The Blazers Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews accepted their Ice Bucket Challenges and apparently LaMarcus Aldridge is next.
It's all part of a new effort to raise awareness and donations for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. The idea is that once someone is nominated, they record and post a video of themselves being drenched with ice water out of a bucket, then challenge three others. If they choose not to do it, they must donate $100 to ALS research. Once challenged, a person has 24 hours to post their own video and challenge three others.
Literally thousands (and that's an understatment) have posted their own videos and countless athletes, actors and musicians have done so too. The trio of Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks (Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck and Chandler Harnish) posted their video together, the entire New York Jets team were soaked by a fireman's hose and so forth. One string saw singer Justin Timberlake challenge Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and his studio band, The Roots (Fallon, The Roots, and comedians Rob Riggle and Horatio Sanz accepted the challenge during the August 12 airing of the Tonight Show). One of Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers' challenges was country singer Darius Rucker, who challenged Lady Antebellum front man Charles Kelley. Kelley challenged model Kate Upton (no word from her yet on whether she accepted the challenge).
Many people are both doing the challenge and making a donation.
The donations vary depending on which report, but over a week span, the money donated is not less than five times the amount raised last year. The trend is certainly working.
The list goes on.
Not to be outdone, The starting guard tandem of the Blazers, Lillard and Matthews, accepted separate challenges, and issued challenges of their own. In turn, one of Matthews challenges was to LaMarcus Aldridge. No word yet from the three-time Blazers all-star on his answer. Click the following links to see their videos (via their Instagram posts:
