FRISCO, TX - Not this year.
The Frisco Fighters were eliminated by the Quad City Steamwheelers last year in the playoffs, but they weren't going to let that happen this season. After the safety, Edwards marched down field and extended the lead on a six-yard scramble up the middle. Quad City started at their own nine-yard line, but quarterback Hilliard was intercepted by Kordell Jackson 42 yards downfield to five the ball back to the Fighters. The Fighters added to the lead on Edwards' 31-yard touchdown bomb to a wide-open Jerminic Smith and the home team was up 23-0 a minute-and-a-half into the second quarter. After the Steamwheelers got positive field position from the ensuing kickoff, turned over the ball on downs. Frisco took advantage with another Edwards 31-yard touchdown bomb; this time to Charles Headen III midway through the second. The Steamwheelers scored their first points of the game when Hilliard bootlegged around the left side from six yards out with a minute remaining. The Fighters scored once more on a quarterback draw of eight yards. Frisco led 37-7 at the break.
Quad City turned over the ball on downs in Frisco territory to begin the second half. The Fighters struck immediately with a 36-yard strike from Edwards to Jolly to go up 44-7 near the midpoint of the third quarter. The Steamwheelers once again turned over the ball on downs. Edwards made them pay with a one-yard rush up the middle to put the Fighters up by 44 points. They led 51-7 heading into the final quarter.
Shane Simpson rushed one yard for the Steamwheelers' second touchdown of the game. Hilliard completed the two-point conversion pass to Jeremiah Holloman. Jimmy Smith answered for the Fighters via a two-yard rush around the right side. The Steamwheelers responded with a 38-yard toss to Kerron McGaw in the right corner of the end zone.
