OverviewThe following is the 2023-24 schedule for the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers enter their 54th season in the National Basketball Association. The season features a regular 82-game schedule where the Blazers play each team in their Northwest Division (Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz) four times and each team from the Eastern Conference twice in equal home-and-away series. They play the four of the other teams in the Western Conference four times. The wild card this season is the addition of the NBA's In-Season Tournament. Four games will be played during November as qualifying games for the tournament. From there, the Blazers will p0lay two more games against opponents to be determined.Regular season play begins on October 25 with visit to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Blazers start with four of their first five on the road with the home opener coming on October 27 against the Orlando Magic. They conclude the campaign at the Sacramento Kings, though they play the previous three at home. Like last year, Portland plays 14 back-to-backs over the course of the season. They also play the same team back-to-back seven times throughout the season (four home sets and three away sets), including the Memphis Grizzlies twice in that mix. This has been done on an increasing basis over the past few years in order to cut back on travel time and costs. The Blazers' only major holiday game comes on New Year's Day, as they start a seven-game road trip at the Phoenix Suns. The longest home streak of the season is seven games which sandwich around the All-Star Break, meaning the team is at home from February 5 to 29. There also is a stretch from March 6 to 14 where the Blazers play six straight at home. Additionally, from December 14 to 29 they play eight of nine games at home. There are some long road trips as well. From January 1 to 12, and March 25 to April 7, they embark on a pair seven-game road trips. The yearly and monthly breakdown of games, home games, away games and back-to-backs appears below:Portland's pre-season slate consists of four games; including a home-and-away against the Phoenix Suns and a visit to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz. MONTHLY UPDATE: The Blazers dropped their first three games of the early season, including their home opener on October 29. They picked up their first win of the season, 99-91, over the Toronto Raptors on October 30. Jerami Grant scored 22 points, Deandre Ayton hauled in a game-high 23 rebounds, and Malcolm Brogdon scored 21 points off the bench in the win.
Portland stands at 1-3 with marks of 1-2 on the road and 0-1 at home. The team is in the midst of a three-game eastern road trip which will conclude on November 1 at the Detroit Pistons. They are back at home with two games against the Memphis Grizzlies. The double home games against a like opponent is something the NBA has been adding to cut down on teams' travel costs and preparations during the season. The Blazers' November 3 game against the Grizzlies is the first of four Mid-Season Qualifying Tournament.
Brogdon leads the team in scoring with 19.3 points per game. Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons finished the month with 18.0 apiece. Ayton led the rebounding charge with 14.8 rebounds per outing and three players average 4.0 assists per game on a team which ranks last in the league in that category. Simons, the longest-tenured Blazer, is out for four-to-six weeks after surgery to repair a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament of his right thumb which occurred during the season opener on October 25 at the Los Angeles Clippers.

MONTLY UPDATE: The Blazers enjoyed a November which saw them win five of their six games this season. They began the month with two straight wins at the Detroit Pistons and at home over the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime. The win over the Grizzlies came in their first In-Season Tournament qualifying game. They finished the month with wins in three of their last games; over the Utah Jazz at home and a pair of games on the road against the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers. However, they experienced a major hiccup in the middle of the month, losing eight straight prior to their win over the Jazz.
Portland sits at 6-12 on the season, including marks of 2-5 at home and 4-7 on the road. During November, the Blazers went 5-9 overall, 2-4 at home and 3-5 on the road. They sit in fourth place in the Northwest Division and in 12th place in the Western Conference. If the Draft Lottery were held today, they would sit in the seventh spot.
Despite suffering injuries at the guard positions, there has been some solid play from individual players on the roster. Forward Jerami Grant leads the team with 22.8 points per game, while Malcolm Brogdon and Shaedon Sharpe are averaging 17.7 and 17.3 points per game, respectively. Deandre Ayton is the leader in rebounds with 10.8 and Brogdon, who has split time in the starting lineup and coming off the bench, leads the team with 6.4 assists per game.
The Blazers resume the season with a visit to the Jazz on December 2 and have a stretch late in the month where they play eight of nine games at the friendly confines of the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter.

MONTLY UPDATE: The Blazers struggled during the month of December; winning just three of their 13 games. They were unable to take advantage of a month during which they had nine home games, though all three of their wins came at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter. In all, they finished 3-6 at home and 0-4 on the road. They dropped their first seven games of the month before finishing 3-3 in their final six. Their most impressive win came on December 26 at home in a 17-point drubbing of the Sacramento Kings. Their worst loss came just a week prior; a 134-91 rout by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Portland sits at 9-22 on the season with marks of 5-17 at home and 5-11 on the road. The Blazers boast a conference record of 4-11. They are currently fifth in the Northwest Division, four games back of the fourth-place Utah Jazz. Incidentally, the other three teams in the division -- the Minnesota Timberwolves, Thunder and Denver Nuggets hold the top three spots in the Western Conference. If the Draft Lottery were held today, they would sit in the fifth chair.
Anfernee Simons leads the team in scoring at 27.1 points per game in just 11 games. Jerami Grant is tallying 22.4, while Shaedon Sharpe and Malcolm Brogdon ended December with 16.8 and 16.4, respectively. Deandre Ayton's 10.8 rebounds per game lead the team. Brogdon paces the team with 5.8 assists and Simons has 5.3. Matisse Thybulle has 1.7 steals per game. The Blazers average 109.4 points per game and allow 115.2.
It doesn't get any easier for the Blazers as they begin the new year on a seven-game midwest/Big Apple road trip. It begins on January 1 at the Phoenix Suns and continues with a pair of games at the Dallas Mavericks before heading to the Empire State to face the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. They round out the trip with visits to the Thunder and the Timberwolves. From there, the month balances out a bit with six of their last 10 games being at home. January consists of six home games, 11 road games and three back-to-back situations.

MONTHLY UPDATE: The Blazers enjoyed the best month of their season, despite being in a rebuild mode. They finished 6-11 during January with marks of 4-2 at home and 2-9 on the road. Five of those wins came over Eastern Conference teams. The Blazers have a season record of 15-33 (9-13 home, 6-20 away). That puts them fifth in the Northwest Division and 14th in the Western Conference. Only the San Antonio Spurs are below them at 10-38. If the NBA Draft Lottery were held today, the Blazers would find themselves in the fifth position.
Portland started out the month on a seven-game road trip from which they returned with a 1-6 mark. The lone win was a 134-127 overtime victory at the Brooklyn Nets on January 7. They turned around and defeated the Nets again 10 days later at home, 105-103. The Blazers won both of their overtime game during the month; over the Nets and at the Houston Rockets on January 24, 137-131. The signature win of the month – and perhaps the season – came on the last day of January as the Blazers turned away the Milwaukee Bucks at home, 119-116 in Damian Lillard's first trip back to the Rose City since being traded to the Bucks over the offseason.
Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant lead the team in scoring with 22.9 and 21.3 points per game, respectively. Deandre Ayton is the team's top rebounder with 10.5 boards per game to go along with 13.6 points per game. Malcolm Brogdon leads the group at 5.5 assists per game, just above Simon's 5.2.
February is an abbreviated month schedule-wise since it's broken up in half by the All-Star Break. It's also very home-friendly to the club. After a visit to the Denver Nuggets for a pair of games on February 2 and 4, all seven remaining games come at home, beginning with the Detroit Pistons on February 8. The Blazers host the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 13 and 15 in a divisional series. They close out the month at home against the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat on February 25 and 27, respectively.

MONTHLY UPDATE: There is no other way to put it: The Blazers suffered through one of their worst months in team history. Understanding that the team is in full rebuild mode, they were unable to eek out a single win in nine tries during the month. It should be noted that the schedule was split into two parts due to the NBA All-Star Break February 16-22. Portland finished 0-9 for the month, including 0-7 during a home stand at the end of the month. They also were 0-2 on the road, losing both contests to the Denver Nuggets.
Portland sits at 15-42 on the season, including marks of 9-20 at home and 6-22 at home. They are 14th out of 15 teams in the Western Conference with only the San Antonio Spurs behind them. They own the fifth-worst record in the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves lead the conference at 42-17 and the Boston Celtics sit atop the Eastern Conference with the league's best record of 46-12.
Infernal Simons leads the Blazers with 22.6 points per game, while Jerami Grant comes in at 21.7. Deandre Ayton adds a team-leading 10.6 rebounds to his 14.3 points per game. Malcolm Brogdon, sidelined for a stretch with an injury, leads the team with 5.5 assists with Simons' 5.2 just behind him.
The Blazers head out on the road to begin March, with a back-to-back at the Memphis Grizzles on the first and second, followed by a trip to the Timberwolves two days later. They are at home for six straight between March 6 and 14, including the solo appearances in Portland by a quartet of Eastern Conference teams. After a two-game road trip, they are back for three more home contests against Western Conference opponents. They close out the month amidst a seven-game road trip. The final game of the month is at the Miami Heat on March 29.

MONTHLY UPDATE: The Trail Blazers started off strong in the month of March with a pair of wins on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies. Then, the bottom fell out as they lost 13 of their last 15 games including ending the month on a nine-game skid. In all, the team went 4-13 on the month, 2-7 at home and 2-6 on the road. This, of course, comes after their 0-9 performance over the month of April.
Overall, the Blazers stand at 19-55 on the season and are 14th of 15 teams in the Western Conference. They are 11-27 at home and 8-28 on the road. They're just a game and a half above the last place San Antonio Spurs. If the NBA Draft Lottery were held today, the Blazers would be in the fifth position. Incidentally, three of the Blazers Northwest Division foes (Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets) are all battle for first place in the conference and are within one game of each other.
Anfernee Simons leads the team with 22.6 points per game and is tied for the lead with Malcolm Brogdon with 5.5 assists per game. Jerami Grant scores 21.0 points per game. Deandre Ayton's 11.0 rebounds per contest lead the team to go along with his 15.8 points. Matisse Thybulle tops the Blazers with 1.7 steals per contest. Of note, since coming over in a trade deadline deal with the Boston Celtics, guard Delano Banton has averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 23 games (seven starts) with the team.
The Blazers head into April with eight games to close out the regular season. The first four comprise the last four games of an eastern road trip, starting with an April Fool's Day date at the Orlando Magic. They play three at home before closing out the regular season at the Sacramento Kings.

SEASON ENDING UPDATE: The Trail Blazers' season ended, perhaps mercifully, on April 14 with a 39-point loss at the Sacramento Kings. More on that later. The month of April was about as successful as any other month during the season (but a tad better than February). The team went 2-6 overall in April with both wins coming on the road. Those particular contests came in games five and six of a seven-game road trip. The Blazers went 0-3 at home and 2-3 on the road. They were 2-2 against Eastern Conference opponents and 0-4 against opponents from their own Western Conference.
The Blazers finished their season 21-61 overall and at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. They were 11-30 at home and 10-31 on the road. They tied for the third-worst record in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers. A random drawing will be held between the teams to determine which will be in the third and which in fourth of the NBA Draft Lottery. That will happen later during the playoffs.
Incidentally, three of the Blazers Northwest Division foes finished atop the conference in the following order: 1. Oklahoma City Thunder; 2. Minnesota Timberwolves; 3. Denver Nuggets. Those three teams will host first round playoff series with the Thunder owning home court advantage throughout the conference playoffs. Over in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics finished with the NBA's best record of 64-18.
Anfernee Simons led the team in scoring with 22.6 points per game, followed closely by Jerami Grant with 21.0. Deandre Ayton grabbed 11.1 rebounds per game to go along with 16.7 points per contest. Dalano Banton averaged 16.7 points in 29 games since coming over in a deal with the Celtics prior to the trade deadline. He was traded to Portland for a 1-through-55 protected second round pick. Essentially, that means if the Blazers finished with one of the five worst records in the league, which they did, the pick would be sent to the Celtics. Had they finished sixth from last or better, they would have kept the pick. Simons and Malcolm Brogdon led the team with 5.5 assists per game each, and Ayton added 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.
