The Blazers submitted a bid last week to host either the 2017 or 2018 NBA all-star weekend. This would undoubtedly be huge for the city of Portland and for the Trail Blazers. However, would it be the biggest sporting event in the history of the Rose City. Somehow, I doubt that. I'm not trying to pick on Blazers beat reporter Casey Holdahl, but he seems to think a Portland All-Star Weekend would eclipse even the championship won by the 1976-77 Trail Blazers team. I had this exchange with him on twitter: I did not agree, so I responded: Then: At which time, I reminded him what was more important: Mike Rice also had an issue with Holdahl: Undoubtedly, a championship will be much longer remembered than hosting All-Star Weekend. I am not trying to attack Casey Holdahl personally. It is just clear to me he is absolutely wrong on this issue. Let's put it in perspective. Would hosting All-Star Weekend produce a street-packed reaction like this: I rest my case.

I can see maybe the economic impact and some perspective from around the league, but as far as being the biggest sporting event in Portland history, it doesn't even come close to winning the championship.
