3/29/24 --
FRISCO, TX - The Frisco Fighters pulled away from the Duke City Gladiators in a messy and lackluster fourth quarter to earn their second win of the season in as many games, tonight at Comercia Center.

Frisco scored first, courtesy a one-yard run from Jimmy Smith. The Fighters defense got into the act when Norris Wrenn recovered Greg Dent, Jr.'s fumble and returned it 17 yard for a score. Suddenly, the Fighters were up 14-0 with just over five minutes gone in the game. The Gladiators got on the board with a 16-yard pass from Javin Kilgo to Gourney Sloan. Ernesto Lacayo's attempted a drop kick for the conversion, and it was good, serving as a two-point conversion. The Fighters extended their lead with a six-yard touchdown from Edwards to Cole Blackmon early in the second quarter. Kilgo was intercepted by the Fighters' Norris Wrenn who returned it 37 yards to put the offense back in business. Duke City's defense forced Frisco into a fourth-and-30, and the long field goal try served as a punt giving the ball back to the Gladiators. Kilgo found Dent for a 23-yard touchdown and Lacayo's third dropkick pulled the Gladiators to within four points with 23 seconds left in the quarter. Frisco led 28-24 heading into intermission.
Kilgo connected with Sloan again, this time a 25-yard touchdown strike, to put the Gladiators ahead. Lacayo added the dropkick two-pointer and their lead was four. The Fighters came back with a one-yard run from Edwards to retake the lead with 9:10 remaining in the third. Dent caught four passes for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Sloan finished with four grabs for 54 yards and three scores. Trevaugn Claybourne had seven tackles for the defense, and Jason Serda added six. Malik McDowell and Tamar Hart each recorded a sack. Lacayo was a perfect five of five on his unconventional dropkick two-point conversions; a stat which may prompt that to become the normal standard of practice for Duke City this season.
