Wranglers 57, Gunslingers 50
4/6/24 --
SAN ANTONIO, TX - Josh Jones threw three touchdown passes as the Northern Arizona Wranglers defeated the San Antonio Gunslingers 57-50 at the Freeman Coliseum on Saturday night.
The Gunslingers (0-2) came out on fire in their first home game as a member of the IFL, as Sam Castronova found Keyshawn Harper for a touchdown on their opening possession.
San Antonio even took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter on a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Zach Brown.
However, the Wranglers (2-0) had an answer, as quarterback Josh Jones found John Maldonado for two second quarter touchdowns. After a Castronova interception late in the first half, Jones found Arsiah McCorker for a touchdown to give Northern Arizona a 35-21 lead at halftime.
The Wranglers kept up the momentum in the third quarter, as they increased their lead to 50-23 and seemed ready to blow the game open.
However, the Gunslingers weren’t ready to pack it in.
They cut the deficit to 50-37 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Wranglers scored another touchdown to put the game away.
The Gunslingers scored two more touchdowns, including one from Kali Rashaad with no time left, but it wasn’t enough.
San Antonio showed once again that they won’t be a team to overlook this season, while the Wranglers were able to win despite losing Jones late in the third quarter.
The Gunslingers will visit the Vegas Knight Hawks on April 12 for a 7:05 p.m. kickoff. After a bye in week 5, the Wranglers are back in action when they host the Duke City Gladiators on April 20 with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. Times listed are pacific daylight time.
Both games, as well as all IFL games this season, will be streamed live on the IFL YouTube Channel and Caffeine TV IFL. SCtoC will present previews of those, and all, games this season. Those previews will be posted on the board of the home team in each game. Click for our complete IFL 2024 Schedule.
